The session runs from January 7th until January 28th and features some of the top prep teams across America. I pulled up on day 7 of the action. In this article, a follow up to our 1st impressions article, we take a look at some of the players that made a positive impression on my 2nd day at the Grind Session.
Devontes Cobbs Devontes Cobbs 6'3" | CG Overtime Elite | 2022 GA 6’3 SG Eduprize 2022 (#16PHA 2022) – Cobbs is going to be a card-carrying member of my all foxhole team. A tough gritty competitor, for all his flash and highlights, the 6’3 wing produces just as many winning plays. Dives on the floor, defends, and is fearless when rebounding or defending against bigger opponents.
Abraham Oyeadier 6’10 C Balboa 2024 – A gross miscarriage of justice was leaving Oyeadier off our all Windex team. The 6’10 post man is a relentless rebounder who grabs in traffic and out of area boards. He goes into games with a singular focus and that is to grab every miss. With his size, frame, and singular skill, he is easily one of the top players in the class of 2024.
Zach Bloch Zach Bloch 6'2" | PG Colorado Prep | 2021 State CO 6’2 SG Colorado Prep 2021 (#16PHCO 2021) – I knew Bloch could shoot it, and I wasn’t surprised by his driving ability. I was however surprised to find out that he had rim protection ability. Bloch had a great basket saving block against Prolific Prep, showing off his defense and competitive nature. The reigning Kansas 2A player of the year is a clear sleeper that has used the Grind Session as his personal coming-out party.
Clarence Martin Clarence Martin 6'5" | SF Eduprize | 2021 State AZ 6’6 SF Eduprize 2021 – Martin is a rare prospect who actually shoots it better off the bounce. He made several side step and step back 3’s against Balboa. The wing knows what he is, and that’s a sniper with the ability to quickly change the scoreboard with his 3 point shooting ability.
Marco Kenz 6’6 SF Balboa 2022 – Kenz impressed me with his shot-making ability and his toughness. The wing was able to create buckets for himself in iso situations, he also managed to grab tough in traffic boards helping Balboa escape with a win.
Langston Reynolds Langston Reynolds 6'4" | CG Colorado Prep | 2022 State #172 Nation CO 6’4 SG Colorado Prep 2022 (#1PHCO 2022) (featured image) – Reynolds is one of the top two way players on the west coast. I feel comfortable calling him an elite defender. When he wants to, Reynolds absolutely locks up opposing ballhandlers. He was a stud all day when playing downhill in transition. Easy to see why the junior guard has picked up a slew of offers recently, including from Tulsa, Montana, and NAU.
