Marquis Barnett Marquis Barnett 6'3" | PG Brunswick | 2021 State OH and Tre Massey Tre Massey 6'2" | SG Brunswick | 2021 State OH became too much for the Panthers and really started to put the game out of reach to start the second half.
Five different players scored in the third quarter for Brunswick, including out-scoring the Panthers 20-7 to take a commanding lead as the game went on. Transition buckets and 3-pointers highlighted a Blue Devil offense that was just too much for the visiting Panthers. Below are a few players that stood out during the team’s 78-57 conference win.
Top Performers
Tre Massey Tre Massey 6'2" | SG Brunswick | 2021 State OH | 6-2 Sr | Brunswick
Coming off a junior season where he made 100 3-pointers, Tre Massey Tre Massey 6'2" | SG Brunswick | 2021 State OH proved once again why he’s one of the best shooters in the state. He connected on a game-high six 3s Friday night, ending the night with 24 points. He’s one of the most consistent shooters I’ve seen this year and is much more than just a catch-and-shoot player. The senior guard fights for everything on the offensive side of the ball, as he’s constantly moving and fighting through screens to find an open look from behind the arc.
Massey is most dominant with his right hand and wasn’t able to get to the rim often when trying to create other scoring plays. Nonetheless, he sees the court well and is one of the most vocal athletes on any given night. It’s almost like there is a highlight play or two waiting to happen on any possession and he’s an intriguing player that can have one of the most successful senior seasons this year if he continues to shoot the ball the way he’s known to do.
Clayton Cunningham Clayton Cunningham 5'11" | SG Euclid | 2022 State OH | 5-11 Jr | Euclid
Euclid struggled to get things going offensively all night but Cunningham proved to be the anchor of the offense. He ended the night scoring seven points and did a good job of creating space when he took command of the offense. He’s physical for his size and displayed a couple of different moves that allowed him to beat his defender off the dribble when trying to make a play to spark a comeback. He proved to be a selfless player who’s willing to get his teammates an open look rather than trying to force something that isn’t there.
Marquis Barnett Marquis Barnett 6'3" | PG Brunswick | 2021 State OH | 6-3 Sr | Brunswick
One of the top playmakers I’ve seen this season, Barnett shined bright during the win against Euclid. He’s uber-athletic for his size and ended the night scoring a game-high 25 points while grabbing 14 rebounds and blocking five shots. He was all over the floor, including securing a handful of steals that led to easy transition baskets for the Blue Devils. The unsigned senior tracks down the ball very well and can score at will in a myriad of ways. I expect some more offers to come his way in the next couple of months with the backcourt of Massey and Barnett is one of the most lethal in the area.
