Prep Hoops is here to bring you all things high school basketball and player analysis, which continues in this article looking at the top three-point shooters from Class AA schools so far.
Jaymont Green Miller – Junior, SG: Sto-Rox
Green Miller has been fantastic from beyond the arc so far this season, making 2.2 threes a game for Sto-Rox, who is currently 4-2 on the year. He’s got the shooter’s touch as he’s also averaging 16.0 PPG on the season. Green Miller is finding space open for himself, switching off ball screens and blossoming as a transition shooter. Keep your eyes out on him this season to watch his continued development as a shooter.
Layne Shall – Senior: Smethport
Shall is showing great efficiency as an outside shooter through his first six games of the 2020-21 season, shooting well over 50 percent from beyond the arc. That’s helped contribute to him averaging 13.5 PPG thus far in the young season. Shall has veteran leader written all over him just based on watching how he conducts himself on the court. He’s shown his range. Now, he just needs to stay consistent with his shot and they will continue to fall.
Tyler Janone – Senior, SF: Canton
Janone has been relying on the three a lot so far this season, shooting 41 percent from the outside with 60 percent of his scoring coming off of threes. He’s averaging 2.3 made threes a game for Canton in 2021, a very impressive total for the senior who’s averaging 11.5 PPG. There’s already a lot to like about Janone’s game, and his ability to stretch the floor and shoot the three well adds another dimension to his overall play style, a very impressive watch overall.
Keith Rockmore Jr. – Senior, SG/SF: Jeanette
Rockmore Jr. went off against Winchester Thurston, Jeanette’s second game of the season. In a 65-60 loss, he scored 28 points, shot 9-for-14 from the field and 4-for-8 from three. He’s shooting 39 percent from three overall, having knocked down 11 triples through his first six games. Over 44 percent of Rockmore Jr’s shots taken this season are from three, so he’s a volume shooter, but he’s also a proven leader on this Jeanette team, something to keep an eye on in 2021.
Tate Etzweiler – Senior, G/F Millersburg
Etzweiler is showing his worth on the defensive end as much as his offensive output, but where he’s shown some promise is in his three-point shooting, shooting 46 percent from three this season. He doesn’t necessarily rely or live-or-die off the three, but he’s been efficient when he gets his looks. If he has one, he’s knocking it down more often than not. Etzweiler hasn’t taken more than four threes in a game in 2021, but he can turn into a bulk shooter from beyond if Millersburg needs him to be.
