Continue ReadingIt’s been an interesting first two weeks of the 2020-21 Central League high school boys basketball season. A number of teams already have five or six games under the belt. While other Central League squads faced extensive Covid-19 precautionary delays and just tipped off their season this week. Despite some rust and fitness issues, we’ve already seen some fantastic performances from Central League prospects.
Prep Hoops is here to highlight those early season performances in southeastern Pennsylvania’s Central League (District 1).
Denzel Atkinson-Boyer Denzel Atkinson-Boyer 6'7" | PF Penncrest | 2021 State PA – 6’8” / Senior / Penncrest / Forward-Center: The long and wiry athlete looks like he has added significant muscle to his 6’8” frame and early on Atkinson-Boyer has played a noticeably more physical style. Posted a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds vs Strath Haven and 11 & 6 against Radnor.
Terrence “TC” Cobb – 5’11’’/ Senior / Springfield / Combo Guard: Springfield has already won 3 Central League games this season (only 1 league win in 2019-20) and Cobb has been a major factor so far — 18 points vs. Haverford and 11 points vs Radnor.
Saahir Lee Saahir Lee 5'11" | PG Penncrest | 2022 State PA – 5’10” / Junior / Penncrest / Point Guard: In 2019-20 Lee was arguably the best drive-and-kick-out-to-the-three-point-line player in the Central League. This year Penncrest will need Lee to score the ball more and so far he has come through. He started the 2021 season with 14 pts vs Upper Darby and 16 points vs Strath Haven. Lee saved his best early on effort for Radnor – 21 points & 5 rebounds in a much needed win for Penncrest.
Demetrius Lilley Demetrius Lilley 6'8" | PF Lower Merion | 2022 State PA – 6’9’’ / Junior / Lower Merion / Forward-Center: The Central League’s most decorated “big fella” and resident double-double machine tallied 20 points and 10 rebounds vs undersized Radnor. Lilley then posted 18 points and 12 boards vs. Haverford and 26 points (24 in 2nd half) & 10 against Upper Darby. One thing of note early on this season is that Lilley is launching threes. Interested to see if that shot selection continues for the junior post player.
Lewis Robinson Lewis Robinson 5'11" | CG Radnor | 2021 State PA – 5’11’’/ Senior / Radnor / Combo Guard: This season the ultra-quick combo will be expected to carry a heavy scoring load for Radnor which has a young starting five (includes 3 sophomores) and was one of the last teams in the CL to tip off this month. So far Robinson has handled the pressure well and picked up where he left off in 2019-20 — 14 pts vs LM; 11 points vs Springfield (7 in 4th Q) as well as 18 points and 6 rebs vs Penncrest.
John Seidman John Seidman 6'3" | SG Haverford | 2021 State PA – 6’3’’ / Senior / Haverford / Point-Forward: The 2019-20 1st Team All-Delaware County guard is off to a fast start here in 2021. He scored 26 pts vs Garnett Valley; 22 vs. Marple-Newtown and 19 against Haverford.
Matt Shuler – 5’11’’/ Junior / Strath Haven / Point Guard: Shuler owns a league wide reputation as a lockdown defender, but my-ohh-my, did his offensive game develop significantly this past off season. Shuler scored 21 points vs Harriton; 17 points vs. Garnet Valley and another 17 against Penncrest. Shuler’s efforts have helped Strath Haven race out to a 3-0 CL record.
Honorable Mention:
Andrew Fox Andrew Fox 6'8" | PF Conestoga | 2021 State PA – 6’8” / Senior / Conestoga / Power Forward
Jackson Hicke Jackson Hicke 6'5" | SF Radnor | 2023 State PA – 6’3’’ / Sophomore / Radnor / Wing
