Today we will preview elite wing and forward prospects who will have an impact on the Chest-Mont League’s intense cross-town rivalry games and most likely play at the next level.
Griffin Barrouk Griffin Barrouk 6'5" | SG West Chester Rustin | 2021 State PA – 6’5” / Senior / West Chester Rustin / Wing: Did any single prospect in Pennsylvania see his stock rise faster or higher during the pandemic then Barrouk? A consistent contributor on varsity as a sophomore, in his junior season Barrouk posted a stat line of 14 ppg.,7 rpg. and 4 apg., which earned him 1st Team All-Chest-Mont League accolades. That’s a respectable junior season, but nothing crazy. Then basketball got shut down in March 2020 and Barrouk went to work on his game. The result was that in Fall 2020, Barrouk emerged as a vastly improved player. He was a regular standout out at the Difference Maker Elite Runs (NJ) and squeezed in a few outstanding tournaments with Philly Pride Gold as well. Thus his recruiting profile skyrocketed and DI schools came knocking. In mid-Novenmber Barrouk committed to Hofstra. The Pride program is getting an incredibly skilled shooter and passer with a very high basketball IQ who owns a freakish level work ethic.
Jaeden Brickus – 6’2” / Junior / Coatesville / Wing: A starter as a sophomore, Brickus frequently posted double digit scoring games despite being the third option on offense. Included in that outstanding sophomore season was a 12 point effort in the PIAA state tournament vs. nationally ranked Roman Catholic and a 20 point game (four 3PM) vs. West Chester Henderson. Brickus has ability to hit shots from behind the arc at a high rate. He owns text book mechanics, deep range and a quick release, so defenders should pick this kid up at half court. Brickus also does an excellent job of filling the lane in transition and then scoring on the fast break. With former Coatesville superstar Jahmir Brickus (Two-time Pennsylvania Class 6A All-State 1st Team honoree) now playing at LaSalle University, Jaeden will be expected to have a much bigger offensive role this winter.
Buzz Hertz – 6’4” / Senior / Kennett / Wing: If you have witnessed Hertz play with Philly Pride Gold on the grassroots circuit then you know this versatile athlete is a knock down three point shooter. However, during the 2019-20 high school season Hertz proved that he can also knife through a defense with the dribble and score with floaters or lay-ins. Last winter his dual threat abilities produced a 29 point outing vs Phoenixville and another 29 point night (in three quarters of action) in a blowout win over Interboro. Hertz also plays football (OLB/WR) for Kennett and this fall he was an all-league selection.
Nelson Lamizana – 6’5” / Freshman / West Chester Henderson / Small Forward: Lamazina is basketball baby and his offensive skills (especially his footwork) are raw, but there is a ton of upside here. The freshman is long, athletic and can run the floor. This combination enables him to blocks shots and cleans the glass at a high level. With his wingspan and quickness, he excels at capitalizing on 2nd chance scoring opportunities. Lamizana can score via elbow jumpers as well. Lamizana does a nice job with outlet passes that trigger fast break points. On the AAU circuit, Lamizana runs with Team Final Red (PA) as well as the Downingtown Heat (PA).
Stanley Porter – 6’7” / Sophomore / West Chester East / Power Forward: A mountain of player, Porter stands 6’7” and change, has an enormous wingspan and a wide base. Porter uses his oversized physical attributes to be a high level rim protector and dominate the glass. For a prospect of his size and young age, he runs the floor well. He exhibits solid foot work on the interior which is where he inflicts his offensive damage via 2nd chance scoring opportunities. Porter brings a level of good energy to the floor that every coach looks for in a prospect.
Junior Yilijap – 6’7” / Senior/ Great Valley / Power Forward: An athletic interior player with length for days, Yilijap runs the floor very well and has displayed a solid offensive skill set. Operating mostly out of the high post, Yilijap has flashed excellent passing skills and the ability to score off the dribble. Thanks to his hops and nose for the ball, Yilijap can also convert on 2nd chance scoring opportunities at a high rate. For a big fella, Yilijap owns decent handles and can pass out of a double team.
