The event which has a 3 game guarantee, provides an excellent opportunity for players to compete, as well as gain much-needed exposure. In this article, we preview some of the top players participating in the event.
Sebastian Mack Sebastian Mack 6'4" | CG Coronado | 2023 State #58 Nation NV 6’1 CG Purple Reign 2023 (#1PHN 2023) – Mack’s transition from Shooting guard into a point has been much smoother than I originally thought. He’s a natural leader, with the ability to get the best from his teammates. He’s managed to do this without losing his best skill. The 6’1 CG can still fill it up and is unique in the fact that he’s a shooter that can score the basketball. Going to be fun to evaluate him to see how he handles dual duties of keeping guys involved as well as scoring the basketball.
Michael Klekas Michael Klekas 6'3" | SF Elko | 2022 State NV 6’3 SF Elko 2022 (#9PHN 2022) – Just finished watching tape on Klekas, and I’m excited to have him playing in this event. Some guys just understand how to play the game, and he’s one of them. The 6’3 point forward isn’t the fastest or most athletic, yet he somehow always seems to get his shot off over faster, and more athletic players. Seeing him play 3 games against city teams with speed and athleticism will go a long way in helping understand what level prospect he is.
Jaylen Berry Jaylen Berry 6'2" | PG Basic | 2021 State NV 6’2 PG Big Show Ballers (#20PHN 2021) – Berry has come a long way in a short time, 18 months ago he had never played a varsity game, now he’s a prized recruit at CSN. Berry has good wiggle and can shoot the ball. He’s also a dog on defense. I haven’t seen him play for a few months, so I’m looking to see where he’s at with his conditioning and skill.
Max Heinz Max Heinz 6'1" | SG Faith Lutheran | 2021 State NV 6’2 SG Team Rogue 2021 (#42PHN 2021) – Perhaps one of the most enjoyable players for me to watch over the last two years. I’m excited to see Heinz play. In the past, he’s done all the little things to help his team win, however, he’s transitioned into more than a glue guy. Heinz has a nice mid-range pull-up and has shown the ability to handle against pressure. As always he plays terrific defense both on ball and in help situations.
David Poole David Poole 5'10" | PG Valley | 2023 State NV 5’10 PG D.I.G Basketball Club (#17PHN 2023) (featured image) – D.I.G is a dangerous team with a ton of young talent. Perhaps no player embodies that more than Poole. The 5’10 PG had a brilliant freshmen season last year and is looking to piggyback on that with his play this season. I’m looking to see improvement, in his outside shot and his team leadership, if this happens, expect a young and talented D.I.G club to make some noise this week.
Lowell Francis Chan Lowell Francis Chan 6'6" | SF Sierra Vista | 2021 State NV 6’4 SG Blue Hoops (#56PHN 2021) – Chan has the size and skill to be a problem. He can score in the paint, and excels at the lost art of the mid-range game. Blue Hoops is a program learning to play under a 1st-year coach, it will take leadership and production from Chan in order to succeed. Chan is a good offensive player, however, what I’m interested in seeing from him this weekend, is his ability to rebound and defend.
