Continue ReadingSunday marked the second session of the CBG Winter Series, a club team event that was started by the Commonwealth Basketball Group to give kids and teams that don’t have a chance to play high school ball this year a chance to compete in front of a live stream for college coaches and other media. The event featured 12 teams from across the state of VA, and each team played two games with 20 minute running clock halves.
There was tons of talent in the building with some teams returning from session one and some new ones as well. We will take a look at the standouts and need to break them up due to the amount of talent in the building.
We continue by taking a look at part two of the top seniors in attendance, and all of these guys are still available!
Anyone wishing to watch the replays of the game can check it out on the CBG Live Network at https://cbglivenetwork.com.
Kenard Richardson Kenard Richardson 6'3" | SG Life Christian | 2021 State VA | 6’3” G | Assist Prep
Richardson joined an Assist Prep team that bounced back from a couple of losses in the first session of the Winter Series and helped them to a 2-0 weekend with wins over some very good teams in CBG 434 and Blue Magic. A high motor and tough nosed two way guard that’s a stat sheet stuffer, Richardson is a guy who comes at you over and over again on the offensive end with his ability to score it from multiple levels and make others better as well. He finished the day averaging 18 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists per game, including a very impressive 22 point, 9 rebound, 6 assist game in the win over 434.
Ikechi Chantilou Ikechi Chantilou 6'3" | SF Life Christian | 2021 State VA | 6’4” SF | Assist Prep
Another big time addition to Assist, Chanitlou is one of the top available wings in the state and he was extremely efficient on the offensive end in both games. A long and bouncy wing that excels as a slasher, Chantilou has great body control in the paint to go along with his athleticism and it allows him to finish in traffic and find his way to the free throw line. He finished the day averaging 11.5 points and 4 rebounds per game while shooting 12-for-19 from the field in two games.
Brandon Jenkins Brandon Jenkins 5'10" | PG Benedictine | 2021 State VA | 6’0” PG | Assist Prep
Jenkins continues to be one of the breakout players in the CBG Winter Series, as he followed up a very impressive session one where he was one of the top scorers in the event with another big day, including a big game against 434 where he went for 16 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field. The Benedictine point guard is known more as a floor general and playmaker, but he’s shown that he can be a consistent scorer that can make shots from deep and can create for himself off the bounce as well. He’s a high IQ lead guard that brings it on both ends and is one of the more underrated guards in the Richmond area.
Nick Gravely | 6’0” G | TPLS
Gravely, who was a standout last year at Holy Cross in Lynchburg, helped will TPLS to a come from behind victory in their second game against Circle Sports after the team got off to a slow start in their first game. A strong guard that can get to his spots off the bounce and is always in the right place at the right time, Gravely did a little bit of everything to help will his team back and would be a nice fit for a small school looking for a lead guard. He finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in their win over Circle Sports.
Amarion Wilson Amarion Wilson 6'4" | PF Kecoughtan | 2021 State VA | 6’6” PF | 522 Warriors
Wilson and his front court mate Vincent Cousins (below) continue to show that they’re some of the best and most underrated bigs in the state, and Wilson’s brute force and athleticism allows him to bring big energy and production to his group. He’s a guy who knows his game and doesn’t try to do things outside of it as he mans the paint, plays above the rim and protects the rim on the defensive end and he’s highly efficient in the paint. In their win over Chesapeake Jaguars he was absolute dominant with 18 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the field with 8 rebounds and 4 blocks.
Vincent Cousins | 6’7” PF | 522 Warriors
While Wilson is the paint protector, Cousins is the versatile scoring big for the Warriors that is also big and athletic and can impact the game in a number of ways. He’s someone who can score the ball in a number of ways as he can post and score with his back to the basket, he can face up and put it on the deck and he’s a big time athlete that can finish above the rim off the bounce or on put backs. He pursues the basketball hard on both ends and can guard multiple positions, and he finds ways to be productive on both ends of the floor.
