An event organized to allow players and teams that aren’t able to play in their season yet, the event was live steamed for fans and college coaches, and had some very memorable performances throughout the day.
Here’s a look at 10 of the top underclass standouts in session one of the Winter Series.

Alphonzo Billups Alphonzo Billups 6'7" | SF Varina | 2022 State #154 Nation VA | 6’6” WF | CBG East 2022
Billups was a standout at the CBG Fall Series and continued to show his versatility and stat sheet stuffing ability at the first session of the Winter Series as well. A long and athletic wing that can handle and make plays, guard multiple positions and thrives in transition, he showed the ability to create his own shot and shots for others and was one of the top rebounders in the event too, often starting the break when he did. He averaged 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in the two games, and he hit four three-pointers in one of them as well.
Gray Profit | 6’3” WF | M22 2022
Profit is a new name to keep an eye on in the Richmond area as the Douglas Freeman forward showed a lot of flashes for M22 and was one of their more consistent players throughout the event. He’s a strong kid with a big frame and at first looks more like an undersized four man, but he showed that he can be a secondary ball handler and is surprisingly explosive and quick for his size. He was productive and efficient across the board, averaging 11 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3 assists in two games.
Kenyon Giles Kenyon Giles 5'11" | PG Oscar Smith | 2022 NV | 5’10” PG | CBG Select 2022
Giles is starting to show everyone why he’s been considered one of the top guards in the state since he was young, and if you’re going to keep sleeping on him because of his height he’s going to keep proving you wrong. After going for 31 in a game at Boo Williams on Saturday, he turned around Sunday and was one of the top scorers in session one of the Winter Series, averaging 18 points per game while shooting a blistering 10-for18 from behind the arc. He’s super athletic for his size and can get in the lane and finish at the rim, but he really thrives as a shotmaker from behind the arc as he’s able to create space off the bounce or just step into one from deep in transition, and while some of his shots may be bad shots for others they aren’t for him.
Justyn Fernandez | 6’5” WG | CBG Select 2022
Fernandez is one of a handful of 2022 prospects that are expected to boost their stock in the coming year, and he got a good start to it on Sunday at the Winter Series. A big guard with good athleticism and a knack for scoring the basketball, he found many ways to get in the lane and force the issue, and when he couldn’t finish he was often fouled and sent to the line for easy buckets. His size and versatility makes him very intriguing, as he can play both guard positions and score from all three levels, making him the ideal guard at his size for the next level.
James “Biggie” Patterson | 6’5” WG | CBG Select 2022
Patterson is another guy that is set to explode on the recruitment scene moving forward after reclassifying at Carmel School, and while he didn’t put up big scoring numbers on his team we already know what he can do with that and he showed some grit and production in other areas. He’s a high motor wing with good size that can guard the opposing team’s best player, and he’s a good rebounder on both ends with his size at his position. He’s a name coaches need to get to know now rather than later, as he’s on his way to having a big junior season already.
DeJuan Campbell DeJuan Campbell 6'1" | PG Kecoughtan | 2022 State VA | 6’1” PG | 522 Warriors 2022
Campbell has made a name for himself as one of the top scorers in the 757 after leading the Peninsula in scoring the last two seasons, but he showed he’s much more than that as he looked like a true point guard that ran the show and got everyone involved as he led session one in assists on the day. He isn’t the most athletic guy but he’s a smooth athlete on the ball who can get to his spots, he has terrific footwork and his feel and vision is extremely impressive as he finds his teammates and regularly puts them in situations to be successful. He was no snub as a scorer either though, as he picked his spots and showed the ability to make tough shots at all three levels.
Kenny Page | 5’9” PG | 522 Warriors 2022
While the trio of Campbell, Cousins and Wilson are the ones people think about with this Warriors group, Page was actually their top scorer on the day and was one of the top assist guys as well. The ultimate glue guy, Page brought it on both ends and was very aggressive when he got his opportunities, going for 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting with 4 assists in their win over The Rock and going 17 points on 6-for-9 shooting with 7 rebounds in their win over Team Assist. While he isn’t the biggest guy Page is a highly cerebral player who puts himself around the ball with his scrappy ways and high motor, and he knows how to move without the ball to get open and get easy shots.
Justin Bass | 5’10” G | 522 Warriors 2023
Another guy from the Warriors to keep an eye on, Bass was the x-factor for them in their wins as the sophomore came off the bench and was very aggressive to score it when he was on the floor. He’s a sharp shooter who understands spacing and knows how to get open, he has deep range and he knows how to attack closeouts and get in the lane. He fits their uptempo system very well and had a breakout game in their win over The Rock where he scored a team high 14 points and grabbed 4 rebounds as well.
Myles Derricot | 6’2” WG | CBG East 2023
Derricot is an under the radar sophomore in the Richmond area to keep an eye on, as he showed in the Winter Series playing with CBG East that he has a very refined set of skills that makes him impactful. He’s a guy who can play on or off the basketball as he can initiate the offense and bring the ball up the floor, but he’s also a talented shot maker with deep range and good consistency. He was playing with a new team and didn’t get a ton of opportunities but you can see the potential in him moving forward.
Dominique Bailey | 6’2” WG | Blue Magic 2024
Bailey didn’t put up gaudy numbers by any means, but the 6’2” wing looks like he’s going to develop into a very good player moving forward. He’s the perfect glue guy for this Blue Magic team that is loaded with talent, as he’s the guy who doesn’t need to have the ball in his hands very often to make an impact on the floor. He’s a blue collar and high motor guy that can defend the other team’s best player, fights for loose balls and second chance opportunities and can make shots when he’s left open.
