Noah Sandbothe, Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln High School (2021)
I’ve seen Sandbothe three times now on the season and Midland is getting a steal with the 6’6 big man/forward. Sandbothe has shown he can step out shoot the three off the catch but is also a really good slasher finding the open area for his teammates to get him the ball. Can finish above the rim and has some go-to post moves to score with. He went up against bigger competition this past week and competed on the offensive end. Really like what I’ve seen from Sandbothe so far this season.
Christian Tidiane Christian Tidiane 6'4" | PF Council Bluffs Lincoln | 2021 State IA , Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln High School (2021)
The 6’5 power forward was pretty quiet in the matchup against Millard North but did well against the full court press that was deployed in advancing the ball up the court. But against Bellevue West Tidiane broke out for 17 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks. If he can be more consistent with this type of scoring that could take this team to another level offensively to compete down the stretch in Class 4A.
Tharon Locure, Des Moines North High School (2021)
Though there was no competing with teammate, Diondre Taylor Diondre Taylor 5'10" | PG North | 2021 State IA ’s output, Locure was a good option for the Polar Bears and shows good composure with the ball. At 5’11, the more impressive stat of Locure’s is the fact that he pulled down 10 rebounds to complete a double-double with 14 points. Not to mention Locure effected the game by finding the open man with 5 assists and getting into the opponent’s offensive man turning them over 4 times on steals.
Jakari Bradley Jakari Bradley 6'1" | SF Roosevelt | 2021 State IA , Des Moines Roosevelt High School (2021)
Bradley was the best player on the court for Roosevelt on Friday against North. Cleaning up turnovers will be first priority for Bradley, but he posted a stat line of 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. He was efficient inside the 3 point line going 50% from the field. Bradley has good ball skills and quickness to get to the spot he wants to be. Then when he gets to the bucket he has a little craftiness to finish around the rim.
Boone Bain Boone Bain 6'3" | SF Southeast Polk | 2021 State IA , Southeast Polk High School (2021)
I tuned into the game between Southeast Polk and WDM Valley to primarily see how the Valley team is, but Boone Bain Boone Bain 6'3" | SF Southeast Polk | 2021 State IA played really well. Southeast Polk wasn’t playing with a full strength team, but Bain stepped up and shot the ball efficiently from the field at 50% scoring 16 points for the Rams. The Rams played with active hands all game, poking the ball free several times and Bain was a big part of that coming up with 4 steals. I thought Bain’s best attribute on Friday was the way he attacked the basket and found creases in the defense to get to the hoop.
Keyshaun Brooks Keyshaun Brooks 6'1" | CG Ames | 2021 State IA , Ames High School (2021)
The second of three scorers for the Little Cyclones was Brooks. Brooks had his float game going on Saturday afternoon, and made difficult shots coming down the lane over a tall frontline of the Maroons. He was very efficient in the way he attacked the basket going 5/6 from the field and shooting 1/1 of the 3 point line pouring in 12 points. Though Lipsey should be on the ball a lot, Brooks has shown over the last year and a half that he can score with the best of them and should be a go-to option for Ames.
Jaylon Moses Jaylon Moses 6'8" | PF Xavier | 2021 State IA , Dowling Catholic High School (2021)
Moving from Xavier before the season started, Moses has found himself starting out on the bench for the Maroons behind experienced frontline players. That did not effect his game on Saturday. Moses came into the ballgame and provided a spark when the offense wasn’t flowing very effectively. He started off shooting it well from the corner 3 spot, then as the game went on he seemed to get more comfortable and started taking it off the dribble a little and converting inside. Play of the game was on one of Ames’ last possessions he showed on a ball screen and as Lipsey tried to split the screen defense it went off of Moses’ leg/hand for a loose ball where he picked it up and went and scored a contested layup. He finished the game with 15 points on 6/6 shooting and 3/3 3pt shooting, 3 rebounds and a steal.
Matt Riedl Matt Riedl 6'2" | SF Dowling Catholic | 2021 State IA , Dowling Catholic High School (2021)
As has been mentioned, the game between the Maroons and the Little Cyclones was a low scoring matchup with quite the slow start. Well when the game picked up, so did Riedl. Battling with foul trouble in the first half, Riedl came out in the second half and came up big when Dowling needed him. Along with Moses, Riedl hit a timely corner three, and made a couple buckets around the rim to help Dowling take the lead. He would finish the game with 9 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists on 4/7 shooting but it was the timely manner that he did so that impressed me most about Riedl.
Dom Cipale, Des Moines Lincoln High School (2021)
In a back and forth game between Lincoln and Urbandale, Cipale was the one for the Railsplitters who hit timely 3 point shots to either give his team the lead or extend the lead enough to hold on to. Cipale brought good energy to the offensive and defensive ends for his team and even came up with 2 steals. He would end the game with 12 points total on 4/8 shooting from the 3 point line and overall. A big boost for this Lincoln team who rode the 2nd half momentum all the way to the end.
