Freshman making an impact on varsity squads isn't rare, but it really hasn't happened often so far this year. When there are impactful Freshman I want to highlight them for their performances. Here are two Freshman, ironically from the same team, who made an impact this week:


Trovary Cavil, Des Moines Lincoln (2024)

Having seen Cavil throughout the Fall session, I was not surprised to see him making a big impact for the Railsplitters on Saturday. I was actually more surprised by his slow start, but he didn't let that effect his total game. Cavil ended the game with 10 points on 23.5% from the field. Understanding that that's not a high percentage to shoot from the field, it wasn't how he shot the ball it was the fact that a youngster such as Cavil was cognizant enough to know he had to help his team offensively. Though I want to see his FG% move up, I still liked what Cavil did on Saturday against Urbandale. He had 3 rebounds and 3 assists while running the show as a Freshman.
