The restrictions in California has many teams, and players choosing to head out of state to play. Since I couldn’t physically be there I spent my Saturday with Baller.TV. These prospects played well on Saturday.
Unsigned Seniors
Jaylen Wells Jaylen Wells 6'5" | SG Folsom | 2021 State CA-N 6’6 Shooter from Folsom got off to a slow start, but slowly started to assert himself in the 3 games he played today. Wells is a good shooter from behind the arc. He did put the ball on the floor for some forceful drives to the basket, which brings some balance to his game.
Elijah Carlton Elijah Carlton 5'10" | PG Newark Memorial | 2021 State CA-N 5’9 Newark Memorial had his point guard skills on display Saturday. He was instrumental in mounting a come from behind win in his teams last game of the day. His passing, and ability to settle his team in half court was key. He had several steals that lead to transition baskets.
Jack Steinkamp A 6’8 big body from Whitney, who has deliberate movement, but gives good effort had a good day. He takes up space in the post area. His skills need polishing, and he needs to speed things up a bit.
Jarin Edwards Jarin Edwards 6'3" | CG Bishop O'Dowd | 2021 State CA-N 6’2 Guard from Bishop O’Dowd, showed steady improvement on his perimeter game. Edwards knocked down at least 4 three’s that I counted in game one. The other game he spent time running the offense, there wasn’t much ball pressure, but he did a good job running the team in half court sets. His passing, patience, and recognizing the need for spacing was noticeable.
Landon Wiedenfeld Landon Wiedenfeld 6'6" | SF Granada | 2021 State CA-N 6’6 forward from Granada plays with good balance, he’s stronger than he looks. He brings a do it all attitude. He can defend on the post, he’ll rebound and push, he takes it strong on the drive. He runs the floor in transition, plus he can hit shots from the outside.
Underclassmen
James Freeman James Freeman 6'4" | SF Capital Christian | 2022 NV 6’5 forward for Capital Christian is steadily improving his game. The athletic Freeman has good hops, anytime he’s headed toward the rim there’s a good chance he’ll throw it down. He has to improve his, ball handling, and perimeter shooting. He can defend multiple positions. He’s a rising prospect in the c/o 2022.
CJ McMillan 6’6 power forward for Capital Christian is hard to guard. He’s too big, and strong for a lot of players at this level. He has good movement for a player his size, and a good touch around the basket, plus he can knock down the elbow jumper. A solid rebounder, and a good passer.
Noah Thomas 6’2 combo guard from Pleasant Valley is a 2022 prospect to put on the radar. The two sport athlete (Football) brings confidence to the court, along with an ability to score in different ways, including 3’s. He’ll finish in transition on either side. He has good balance. 24 points in one of his games.
Demarreya Lewis- Cooper 6’0 Point Gard C/O 2022 goes to Enterprise in Redding. Lewis-Cooper has all the tools to be a quality guard in his class if he continues to play the way he did on Saturday. The solid body pass first guard has the handles, and first step quickness to go by defenders, he can finish through contact, he can run a offense. He’ll feed the post with good entry passes. He plays solid on ball defense.
