The Panthers (12-5) handed the Tigers (11-1) their first loss of the season, 77-68, but the win wasn’t easy.
Bartlett needed big shots late when Arlington made a run in the fourth quarter.
Here are the 5 best players from the matchup.
Javar Daniel Javar Daniel 6'8" | PF Bartlett | 2023 State TN was unstoppable in the first quarter
The 6-foot-8 forward was a mismatch for Bartlett in the first quarter. The Panthers had a difficult time keeping Daniel off the glass. Each time he had single coverage, whether it was Luke Bridges or Rashad Williams, it was either a layup or a dunk.
On most nights, the sophomore forward is a hard task. Daniel is a big man that can put the ball on the floor, knock down mid-range shots and block shots at the rim.
Daniel finished the night with 14 points.
Madison Peaster Madison Peaster 6'2" | PG Arlington | 2021 State TN came up with timely scores when Arlington needed them
In the first quarter, the senior point guard scored eight of his team’s 21 points, which were needed because both programs were in the middle of a back and forth affair. Peaster scored four points at the top of the second quarter to keep the Tigers in front before Bartlett grabbed the lead for good off a Terrance Jacobs Jr. made basket.
Arlington was staring down a 67-47 deficit heading into the final eight minutes and needed an offensive spark. Peaster’s most important points of the night came late.
With a big lead, Bartlett was looking to hold the basketball and eat up some clock.
Arlington had other plans.
Peaster’s 3 early in the fourth sparked a 14-2 run that featured two 3s by junior guard Phil Dotson III (18 points). With 4:20 left in the game, the Tigers were down 70-64.
Arlington turned up its intensity on the defensive end, created turnovers, which led to easy transition points. A layup by Peaster at the 1:37 mark had the Tigers down 74-68 as their momentum kept building, but the floor general had to leave the game due to cramps.
Once he left the floor, the Panthers got an easy layup from senior guard Kamrin Jones to seal the win.
Peaster led Arlington with 19 points.
The Jacob brothers did damage on the offensive end
From the tip, junior point guard Terrance Jacobs Jr. scored eight points in the first quarter. His brother, Tadarius Jacobs, returned the favor and scored eight of his own in the second quarter to help Bartlett go into halftime with a 43-35 cushion.
Both players were getting nice looks and took advantage of the Tigers’ missed defensive assignments. Tadarius helped put an end to Arlington’s 14-2 run in the fourth quarter with a score to push his team’s lead back up to eight (72-64).
Terrance finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two blocks. Tadarius added 19 points, 11 rebounds, four steals, two assists and two blocks. Without the Jacob brothers, the Panthers would have had a difficult time scoring.
They saved the day.
Can’t forget about Jones
Kamrin Jones had 15 in Bartlett’s win. He made two 3s as the Panthers built a double-digit lead in the third quarter. Jones moved well without the basketball and didn’t take a shot he wasn’t comfortable in making. Jones went a perfect 3 for 3 from the free throw line.
Amarr Knox Amarr Knox 6'3" | PG Bartlett | 2022 State #212 Nation TN was the fourth Bartlett player to score in double figures. He finished with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.
