2021 is going to be a great year! With the new year upon us and action resuming, it’s time to celebrate the changing of the calendar with 21 players to watch in 2021. Across four categories, we’ll spotlight 21 players to watch in the new year.
Seniors to Watch in 2021:
Max Alexander
MaxAlexander6'0" | PGBuhler | 2021StateKS, senior, Buhler (pictured):
From the point guard position, Alexander is one of the top leaders in the state. He has his high school team ranked #7 in 4A at the break. He gets his teammates involved and controls the tempo of the game. But he can also take the bull by the horns and score a ton of points on his own. His unique skill is a pull-up jumper from beyond the arc on the dead sprint. The son of a coach, Alexander is a heady player at both ends of the floor. He averaged 16.2 points per game as a junior en route to third-team 4A.
Joe Berry
JoeBerry6'4" | CGWashburn Rural | 2021StateKS, senior, Washburn Rural:
It’s no coincidence that Washburn Rural has been one of the top 6A teams throughout Berry’s career. He’s a winner, a leader and hard-nosed performer who’ll do anything his

It’s no coincidence that Washburn Rural has been one of the top 6A teams throughout Berry’s career. He’s a winner, a leader and hard-nosed performer who’ll do anything his team needs. Sounds perfect for an Army recruit, doesn’t it? The 6A third-teamer from a year ago is scoring 13 points per game this year, but that doesn’t scratch the surface of what he provides the Junior Blues. His play in the half-court trapping attack is a game changer. He plays inside and out, inspires his teammates, and wills the Junior Blues to wins.
Jayden GarrisonJaydenGarrison6'1" | CGLittle River | 2021StateKS, senior, Little River:
Football all-state. Check. Football state championship. Check. Garrison is having quite a senior year. The quarterback guides his hoops team as well, making plays, getting others involved and ensuring that they win. Currently ranked #1 in 1A, the Redskins are gunning for a trophy on the hard court to put next to the one on the gridiron. Garrison’s 25.4 points per game this year is just a slight uptick from last year, when he earned first-team 1A.
Javon Grant
JavonGrant5'11" | PGPittsburg | 2021StateKS, senior, Pittsburg:
Grant is a smaller guy with a huge heart and an enormous game. He recently topped the 1,000 point mark for his career in a 41 point outburst against Riverton. That point total isn’t out of the ordinary for this whirling dervish. He’s currently averaging a remarkable 36 points per contest. He is probably the best sub-6-foot player in Kansas.
Zeke Mayo
ZekeMayo6'4" | CGLawrence | 2021StateKS, senior, Lawrence:
Leading the #3 team in 6A, Mayo is consistently leading his team against some elite competition. He has several games with more than 20 points, scoring from every level, running the show and dominating in every phase. He was second-team 6A last year and is one of the top big-guards in the state.
Drew Nicholson
DrewNicholson6'6" | PFHoisington | 2021StateKS, senior, Hoisington:
Nicholson recently collected his 1,000th point for the #4 ranked team in 3A. The Cardinals’ only loss was to Hays, a top-ranked team in 5A. The 6-foot-6 do-everything forward can score from anywhere, is an adept passer, and is tough on the boards. He currently is accounting for 19.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.
