Covid-19 has put a hamper on the basketball season here in the Palmetto State just like everywhere else in the United States. Lets take a look at some players Stock Risers from early in the season here in the 2023 Palmetto State Class.
Merel Burgess Merel Burgess 6'5" | PF Wilson | 2023 State SC – South Florence HS
Burgess made some moves this fall with his play. Burgess a left-handed forward has the ability to play inside-out on the floor. Burgess has a nice set of hands and good footwork down in the paint. Burgess feels very comfortable on where he can step-out and knockdown the 17-19 foot jumper. Burgess is the go-to guy for Bruins Head Coach Christian Savage.
Derrick Barksdale Derrick Barksdale 5'10" | SG South Pointe | 2023 State SC – York Prep (Rock Hill) (pictured on front)
Barksdale plays a bit in the shadows of brothers Kory Davis Kory Davis 5'11" | PG York Prep | 2022 State SC and Kendall Davis Kendall Davis 6'0" | PG York Prep | 2022 State SC here for the Patriots. I really think that role doesn’t mind Barksdale a sharp-shooting left-handed guard. Barksdale has really came on strong for the Patriots this fall after having a big freshman season. Barksdale seems to be most comfortable off the ball and setting up for his shot on the wing. Barksdale has a smooth looking stroke and shoots the ball at a good clip from behind the arc.
Alik Lewis Alik Lewis 6'1" | SG Shining Light Academy | 2023 State NC – Comenius (Fort Mill)
Lewis is a new face in the Palmetto State. Prep Hoops was able to see Lewis play this past summer with Big Shots North Carolina 2023 on the Grassroots Circuit. Lewis and his brother Decimus both attended Eastern Alamance HS last year in Mebane, NC. Lewis has been putting up good numbers early in the season for the Knights. Lewis is averaging 23.3 ppg, 8 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 3.6 steals this year for the Knights (11-3).
