With COVID impacting much of the past summer, most of the 2022 class has still yet to be fully evaluated in person by multiple college programs. As that class starts committing to schools, we look at some of the more underrated shooting guards for the in-state class of 2022.
Kyle Thomas Kyle Thomas 6'4" | SG Cloverdale | 2022 State IN (Cloverdale)
Thomas is very much a hybrid guard who can play both on and off of the ball but he is exceptional when it comes to getting his shot off.
Best known for his shooting ability, he has a quick release that allows him to get it off regardless of opponent pressure. His range stretches out to the logo near half court, a shot he can make regularly. He is also pretty consistent when pulling up in transition.
At 6-foot-3, he knows how to use his body around screens and even when he drives in the lane.
He is averaging 22.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists this year and ranked No. 42 in the 2022 in-state class.
Jahni Summers Jahni Summers 6'5" | SG Evansville Harrison | 2022 State IN (Evansville Harrison)
Ranked No. 51 in the Indiana 2022 class, Summers is a very versatile player on both ends of the floor and continues to develop his overall game.
At 6-foot-4, he also has tremendous length and utilizes it with his on-ball defense and even loves to come as an off-ball defender for the block.
Offensively, he has great feel to get in the paint and mid-range and elevate above defenders. His ability to maneuver his body and finish around the rim is great and always seems in control.
He has the ability to make plays for his teammates, but at this point he is still a score-first type playmaker.
He is averaging 16.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
Armon Jarrard Armon Jarrard 6'2" | PG Mt. Vernon-Fortville | 2022 State IN (Mt. Vernon)
Jarrard is a very talented two-way player and is ranked No. 52 overall in the 2022 in-state class.
At 6-foot-2, but just 160 pounds, he uses his athleticism and wingspan to be a pest on the defensive end of the floor. He is extremely quick and loves to get into the opponent.
On the offensive end, Jarrard has a great first step and burst of speed to get in the middle of the lane. He has range extending to the three-point line, but he is best attacking the basket. He is very much an aggressive, downhill, attacking guard.
This season he is averaging 14.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
Cameron Haffner Cameron Haffner 6'3" | SG Westfield | 2022 State IN (Westfield)
Haffner is the backcourt running mate of 2022 point guard Braden Smith Braden Smith 6'0" | PG Westfield | 2022 State IN and plays off of him exceptionally well.
The 6-foot-3 guard averages 12.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. While he isn’t someone who is going to create his shot consistently, his ability to be a knockdown shooter is evident.
He does a great job reading the driver and finding the perfect angle to be open for the kickout.
His length also helps him be a solid defender and morph into that 3-and-D type player.
He is ranked No. 60 in the 2022 in-state class.
