Some conferences are returning their Player of the Year, while others are searching for a new one. The 2022 class is filled with prospects capable of taking home the player of the year nod. Here are the top 2022 sleepers for Conference Player of the Year.
Maurice Odum Maurice Odum 6'1" | PG West Oaks | 2022 State FL , 6’1 PG Union City
The HCIAL returns its top player in the conference from last season in Mark Armstrong Mark Armstrong 6'2" | PG St. Peter's Prep | 2022 State #39 Nation NJ , but Odum has a fair shot at being player of the year. The 6’1 guard led the state in scoring last year at 27.3 points per game and has the ability to drop 30 on any given night. Odum is dynamic with the ball in his hands and is a crafty finisher around the basket. He is an underrated passer and plays with quick hands on the defensive end. Odum has the scoring talent to carry Union City this season and a potential HCIAL Player of the Year award.
Nate Williams Nate Williams 6'4" | SG St. John Vianney | 2022 State NJ , 6’3 SG St. John Vianney
Ben Roy Ben Roy 6'2" | PG Manasquan | 2022 State #218 Nation NJ was named Shore Conference Player of the Year in 2019-20, but Williams has the potential to challenge. The 6’3 guard had a strong summer with Jersey Force as he showed his ability to drain jumpers from distance. Williams plays with poise in the half court and is unafraid to take a hit on his way to the bucket. He works hard on the defensive end and makes smart decisions with the ball in his hands. St. John Vianney has the opportunity to be a breakout team this season with Williams leading the charge.
Ryan Curry Ryan Curry 6'0" | PG Montgomery | 2022 State NJ , 6’0 PG Montgomery
Williams is not the only member of the Jersey Force 16U team with Player of the Year potential as Curry has a shot at it in the Skyland Conference. The 6’0 guard is a true floor general as he is always looking to get his teammates involved and is cool under pressure. Curry is a crafty ball-handler and is dangerous once he gets into the lane. He is a strong rebounder for a guard and is an underrated on-ball defender. Denver Anglin Denver Anglin 6'0" | PG Gill St. Bernard's | 2022 State #120 Nation NJ , Noah Harris Noah Harris 6'0" | PG Rutgers Prep | 2021 State NJ and Mackenzie Mgbako Mackenzie Mgbako 6'8" | SF Roselle Catholic | 2023 State #5 Nation NJ will probably have the best chances to take home the Conference Player of the Year, but watch out for Curry in 2021.
Logan Howland Logan Howland 6'7" | PF Hun | 2023 NJ , 6’8 PF Westfield
Roselle Catholic rules the roost in the UCC, but Howland has the opportunity to make some noise this season. The 6’8 post player has a strong frame which he uses to finish through contact around the basket. Howland plays with good footwork around the basket and has a nice mid-range jumper. He gobbles up rebounds on both ends of the floor and always talks on the defensive end. Corey Floyd Jr Corey Floyd Jr 6'4" | SG Roselle Catholic | 2022 NJ . and Simeon Wilcher Simeon Wilcher 6'4" | PG Roselle Catholic | 2023 State #17 Nation NJ are the favorites to win Player of the Year, but watch out for Howland in the UCC this season.
Amari Campbell Amari Campbell 6'3" | PG St. Joe's Metuchen | 2022 State NJ , 6’3 PG St. Joe’s Metuchen
The GMC has a bunch of potential options for Player of the Year and Campbell might be the most intriguing option. The 6’3 guard is at his best attacking the basket as he can finish through contact. Campbell is more than just a driver as he has a good release on his jumper and can get hot from distance. He can defend multiple positions and makes smart decisions with the ball in his hands. Jaquan Harris Jaquan Harris 6'4" | PG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2022 State #164 Nation NJ might be the favorite to take home GMC Player of the Year, but Campbell has a legitimate shot at the award.
