Transfers are a big part of high school basketball as they help teams get immediately better. Some 2021 transfers are set to make a big impact this season. Here are the 2021 transfers set to have big seasons.
Malik Austin Malik Austin 6'6" | SF Colonia | 2021 State NJ , 6’6 SF Colonia
The Patriots have been one of the top teams in the GMC over the past two seasons and they should be again with the addition of Austin. The Hudson Catholic transfer has a strong frame which he uses to draw contact. Austin can handle the ball on the perimeter and has a nice release on his jumper. He has the physicality to play down low and is a strong rebounder. Austin is a talented forward who should have a big impact for Colonia this season.
Derrick Bueno Derrick Bueno 6'7" | PF Roselle Catholic | 2021 State NJ , 6’5 PF Roselle Catholic
Kunga Tsering Kunga Tsering 6'6" | SF Woodstock Academy | 2022 State NLG and Amar’e Marshall Amar’e Marshall 6'2" | PG Roselle Catholic | 2021 State NJ were also options, but the Lions need an interior presence down low. Bueno is a physical presence down low who can bully defenders in the paint. The Paramus Catholic transfer can knock down jumpers from the perimeter and has the ability to bring the ball up in transition. Bueno is a strong rebounder and can hold his ground on the defensive end. Roselle Catholic should be one of the teams to beat in New Jersey with Bueno holding it down low.
DiAndre South DiAndre South 6'4" | SG Montclair Immaculate | 2022 NJ , 6’3 PG Montclaie Immaculate
The Lions have to replace guards Zion Bethea Zion Bethea 6'3" | PG Montcalir Immaculate | 2020 State #393 Nation NJ and Marshall, but they got a big addition in South. The Pope John transfer is a big-time athlete who loves to finish above the rim. South has great body control, which makes him a good finisher around the basket. He is an underrated passer and uses his athleticism to make plays on the defensive end. Nick Thomas was also considered, but South’s athleticism and play-making will help lead the Montclair Immaculate offense.
Tazir Cantey Tazir Cantey 6'0" | PG Eastern | 2021 State NJ , 6’0 PG Eastern
The Vikings lost Noah Klinewski Noah Klinewski 6'2" | PG Eastern | 2020 State NJ , but they got a huge addition in Cantey. The Lindenwold transfer is a big-time scorer who is capable of putting up points in bunches. Cantey is dynamic with the ball in his hands and is unafraid of drawing contact on his way to the basket. He is a solid passer and moves his feet very well on the defensive end. Cantey will team up with wing Zubair Lee Zubair Lee 6'5" | SF Eastern | 2021 State NJ to create a strong scoring duo for Eastern this season.
Elijah Barlow Elijah Barlow 6'1" | CG St. Joe's Metuchen | 2021 State NJ , 6’1 CG St. Joe’s Metuchen
The Falcons are looking to build on their success from last season and Barlow gives them that chance. The Union Catholic transfer is a tough on-ball defender who plays with quick hands. Barlow is at his best attacking the basket and is not afraid of drawing contact. He is capable of running the offense in a pinch and fights for rebounds on both ends of the floor. St. Joe’s Metuchen has the potential to be one of the top teams in the GMC this season with Barlow getting looks in the backcourt.
