There have been some surprise players and teams as well. There is a lot to talk about as some teams have 1 game unde their belt and a few teams have 3.
The Obvious
1. Wasatch Academy is really good. The top 10 team in the country is going to be almost impossible to beat when it comes to local Utah schools challenging them. Coach Paul P has done a great job with his team and lineup, especially with a lot of different combinations he has to play with. This last game against AF 6’8 swingman Matus Hronsky hit 4 from deep which is a player that they will need when they play against some more of those national teams outside of Utah. Brennan Rigsby Brennan Rigsby 6'2" | CG Wasatch Academy | 2021 State UT is another player that will have to be solid in whatever role he is asked to fill. Lastly Keba Keita Keba Keita 6'9" | C Wasatch Academy | 2022 State #157 Nation UT is another player that will need to be solid in his role to provide the most for such a stacked team.
2. Take what American Fork has done early with a grain of salt as they have been playing without one of the best players in the state in Jaxon Koehler. 6’5 Tobey Schmitt Tobey Schmitt 6'4" | CG American Fork | 2021 State UT is a nice prospect in the 2021 Class. AF will need him to hit shots that come out of the double-team. A player that has a great game is Evan Young Evan Young 5'11" | PG American Fork | 2022 State UT the 6’0 G can score. It will be fun to watch AF when they’re back at full- strength. They will be at full-strength tonight against Skyline.
3. Ethan Potter Ethan Potter 6'8" | SF Layton | 2021 State #194 Nation UT at Layton High School is really good. put up a 36 piece in game one but his team fell to viewmont. Ethan looked great running the floor. The Utah Valley University signee will have a big year regardless.
Who’s That?
6’4 G Peter Amakasu Peter Amakasu 6'4" | CG Lehi | 2021 State UT , Lehi High School
Someone needs to pick up the phone and ask for film because this kid deserves an offer from an NWAC or an NJCAA. This kid can play. From what we are hearing this kis a major High Academic kid. D2’s need to come calling. Ideal spot is at the 2 because he can shoot and slash, but the kid has great vision. Don’t be surprised if you see him throwing it down on someone this season.
6’10 C Adam Stewart Adam Stewart 6'11" | C RSL Academy | 2022 State UT , RSL Academy
Adam is going to average at a minimum 15 & 10. Adam is a load on the blocks and he is long. He is a shot altering block shot presense in the paint. Could be a nice addition to a LM Division 1 looking for someone to work on. The Texas native is going to get a lot of exposure playing for RSL Academy.
There He Goes Again
6’0 Quentin Meza Quentin Meza 6'0" | PG Cyprus | 2023 State UT , Cyprus High School
Quentin started off the yer on fire once again. Quentin is a shot maker. He is a must see watch and he will surprise you like he usually does every night to opposing teams. Could average 25 a game in his next 4 games. Keep an eye on him he is always trending up.
Upsets
Biggest surprise has been a stacked frontcourt over at Layton that got beat by a stacked guard lineup that shoots the ball well. Viewmont hit 10 three’s and everyone that played was a key contributor. Class of 2021 6’0 G Garrett Tietjen was solid in a 20 point performance.
