Here are five standout wing prospects from this past week’s action:
Donta Coady Donta Coady 6'4" | SF Arlington Bowie | 2021 State TX | 2021 | 6’4’’ Small Forward | Arlington Bowie HS – Coady plays bigger than the height he is listed at. He is an explosive athlete who can score and rebound at a high level. The senior forward isn’t afraid of contact. He muscled his way to the rim and used his body to finish on several occasions vs. Prosper. He had a good game on defense too, displaying the ability to defend numerous positions. Furthermore, Coady proved that he isn’t afraid to take over in late-game situations. Although his team didn’t win, he hit a pair of heavily contested threes in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter. He finished the contest with 19 points and eight rebounds.
Skyler Smith | 2021 | 6’3’’ Shooting Guard/Small Forward | Melissa HS – Smith is a tremendous defender who possesses great length. The Melissa wing uses his long and wiry frame to be disruptive, and he did exactly that on Tuesday, deflecting passes and blocking shots with regularity. He accounted for four blocks vs. Bishop Lynch. He is under control when closing out on shooters and impacts nearly every shot taken against him. At the other end, Smith made timely cuts to the basket and finished with finesse at the rim.
Brice Davis Brice Davis 6'6" | PF Bishop Lynch | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 6’6’’ Small Forward/Power Forward | Bishop Lynch HS – Davis would be my selection for player of the week. He was absolutely brilliant as a scorer on Tuesday. The 6-foot-6-inch forward was decisive, displayed great footwork, and scored from all three levels with relative ease. He also rebounded incredibly well and showed versatility on defense by defending both wings and bigs. I was beyond impressed with his performance from start to finish. Davis ended the night as the game’s leading scorer with 30 points.
Logan Epes | 2022 | 6’3’’ Shooting Guard/Small Forward | Bishop Lynch HS – Epes seems to have filled out his frame since I last saw him a year ago. He looks much stronger as a junior. He didn’t have his best night shooting the ball, but he found other ways to contribute. The 2022 prospect made some excellent passes, chipped in on the boards, and played disciplined defense both on and off the ball vs. the Cardinals. Beyond that, Epes showed great decision making on offense, so much so that I think he might transition into more of a lead-guard role next season after Imo Essien Imo Essien 6'0" | PG Bishop Lynch | 2021 State TX graduates.
Jordan Hall | 2022 | 6’2’’ Shooting Guard/Small Forward | Prosper HS – Hall is an athletic prospect who can operate as a guard or a wing. He came up huge for the eagles in the fourth quarter vs. Bowie, sinking two threes off the dribble, both of which came when his team was trailing by two. Additionally, the Prosper junior was responsible for some gorgeous passes in transition and made plays on defense throughout the contest. He finished the night with eight points.
