The Texas commit was outstanding in the first half of the Knights’ loss to Hempstead, scoring 11 points in the second quarter and showing his full arsenal on the offensive end. A long, athletic wing, he’s a capable shooter from the arc and he uses that to open up the rest of his game. He’s a talented playmaker who sees the floor well and is a willing and gifted passer. He’s a great athlete with the ability to defend multiple spots on the defensive end, and he contributes on the glass as well. He turned the ball over a few too many times in the loss, but he’s also getting used to playing with new teammates. He’s a smart player who generally limits mistakes.
Michael Duax Michael Duax 6'5" | SF Hempstead | 2021 State IA (Hempstead, 2021)
The Northern Iowa signee showed off his whole repertoire on the offensive end, finishing with 27 points on 9-20 shooting (3-7 3P). He missed a few bunnies around the rim that he generally finishes, and could’ve easily gotten into the 35-point range with a few more of those converted. He’s a good athlete with great body control around the rim, and he’s a good 3-point shooter. He’s a great rebounder (11 rebounds against Assumption) who looks to crash the glass hard on both ends of the floor, and he has the size, length, and athleticism to defend multiple positions. Another strong showing for the future Panther.
Jamari Smith Jamari Smith 6'4" | SF Hempstead | 2021 State IA (Hempstead, 2021)
There are few players in the state who can light it up like Jamari Smith Jamari Smith 6'4" | SF Hempstead | 2021 State IA when he gets it going. He came off the bench to score 27 points for Hempstead, going 11-18 from the field and 3-7 from behind the arc. He’s one of the most confident offensive players in Iowa, and he has the skill set to back that up. A sharpshooting wing with great size, length, and athleticism, he’s an impact player on both ends of the floor when he’s engaged.
Josh Dix Josh Dix 6'5" | SG Council Bluffs Lincoln | 2022 State #149 Nation IA (Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln, 2022)
Dix showed why he’s so highly regarded in the Lynx’s win over Le Mars last week, going for an efficient 22 points on 9-14 shooting (2-5 3P) to go with 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. He got off to a hot start, scoring the team’s first five points on a drive and a 3, but he went quiet after that. He showed his high basketball IQ in the second half – on the first possession of the half, he posted up a smaller defender and scored an easy bucket to get himself going. He ended up scoring 12 in the third quarter and he took over the game on both ends of the floor. He’s got a smooth jumper, and his length can create some major issues on the defensive end of the floor as well, as evidenced by the six combined blocks and steals. He’s a smart, efficient player who can fill it up from all three levels, but he can also take over games without scoring.
Owen Thomas Owen Thomas 6'4" | SF Aplington-Parkersburg | 2021 State IA (Aplington-Parkersburg, 2021)
A big, physical 6-4 wing, Thomas showed the ability to shoot it from 3 or get to the bucket when the defense closed out hard. He contributes at a high level on the glass and has the versatility to defend bigger players on the block or smaller players on the wing with his length. He scored 11 points and had 6 rebounds in the Falcons win over South Hardin.
