Here’s a look at the top stock risers for this iteration of the rankings – the top ones who moved up ranking and those that jumped up high from the watch list.
Riley Williams Riley Williams 6'7" | PF Central Catholic | 2023 OR (2023 Central Catholic) +7 (from #20 to #13)
We saw Williams play a couple of times this off-season and he’s grown from an undersized post guy to one that certainly fits the bill at 6-foot-7 and possibly still growing. He’s built like a tank yet moves well on the floor, uses his bulk effectively in the paint on both ends and on the boards, yet has the versatility to step out and knock down some shots. Central Catholic lost some size with the graduation of Gaige Ainslie Gaige Ainslie 6'7" | PF Central Catholic | 2020 State OR but they don’t have to look far to find his replacement in Williams, who is also a stud football player.
Malachi Roberts (2023 Yamhill-Carlton) +4 (from #12 to #8)
To be quite honest, going into the off-season Roberts was seen as the “other” twin as brother Moroni was putting up freshman record-breaking numbers this past season. But Malachi Roberts certainly caught our eye this off-season as he did what he does best – knock down threes. Using his combination of his 6-foot-7 length and his deep range, he earned all-Pangos Camp honors during the summer and if he’s got potential as a three-and-D type of player.
Gray Thompson Gray Thompson 6'6" | SF Central Catholic | 2023 State OR (2023 Central Catholic) (from WL to #20)
We first saw Thompson at a Central Catholic open gym prior to his freshman year and he immediately stood out with his combination of size and skill. Seeing more of him this summer and fall with the Oregon Prospects, we believe he’s ready for the varsity level. Thompson is well-built at 6-foot-4 but has the perimeter skills to do damage out on the wing, and also seems to play with a maturity level beyond his years.
Ryan Schleicher Ryan Schleicher 5'7" | PG Tualatin | 2023 State OR (2023 Tualatin) (from WL to #22)
We had heard about Schleicher and quite honestly formed an uninformed opinion since he’s a small guard. But after watching the point guard play with Dynasty in a few events, we obviously were off the mark. He may lack size but he’s gritty, tough, and fearless as they come and he’s also a tremendous outside shooter as well. Tualatin is deep in the backcourt but we wouldn’t be surprised to see Schleicher be a key reserve.
Aiden Carter Aiden Carter 5'10" | CG Tigard | 2023 OR (2023 Tigard) (from WL to #23)
Carter certainly comes from an athletic family as older sister Lexi (Clemson) and older brother Drew (Colorado) are both Division I athletes. The 5-foot-10 combo guard is on his way there and on the basketball floor, he definitely makes an impact with his motor and nose for the ball. Carter’s defense is ahead of his offense at this point, but any guy who can make a difference without the need to run any plays for him is the kind of guy that gets minutes for Tigard head coach Shawn Alderman.
