Continue ReadingAs we updated our new senior class rankings, we added over 40 new names to the list. There were quite a few reasons for the influx of new names, the biggest one being that we extended the rankings from 125 to 150 prospects, but we also had guys transfer in, guys transfer out, new names emerge and as always, we also just flat out forgot some guys which I’m sure we did in this one as well.
Regardless, we will take a look at the new names in our rankings, starting with part four featuring 10 guys we have added from the last rankings.
Chad Watson Chad Watson 5'10" | CG Patriot | 2021 State VA | 5’10” CG | Patriot (#119 Overall)
Watson is part of a very talented and skilled Patriot backcourt, and there’s plenty to like about his game on both ends of the floor. He’s a guy who can play both on and off the basketball, he has great footwork and finishing ability off either foot with either hand and he has a great looking stroke and deep range off the catch and off the bounce. He’s a guy who is always around the basketball and in the right place at the right time, and he may not look like it but he’s got some toughness and athleticism to him as well.
Charles Amo-Yartey Charles Amo-Yartey 6'3" | SF John Paul the Gre | 2021 State VA | 6’3” SF | John Paul the Great (#121 Overall)
One of the more underrated guards in the class, Amo-Yartey has a lot of tools that would be very helpful for a team at the next level. He has good size at his skill set and can play on or off the basketball, he can score it from multiple levels and plays with a good motor on both ends of the floor. He’s shifty off the bounce, has good footwork and finishing ability through traffic and can make shots from deep as well.
Jack Dolan Jack Dolan 6'5" | C Flint Hill | 2021 State VA | 6’5” C | Flint Hill (#125 Overall)
Dolan is an intriguing big man that showed flashes as a junior and should have a breakout year if they play this season. An inside-out big man that plays at his own pace, he’s a guy who can post up and is a good passer out of the post but he can also step out and shoot the three-ball when he’s open. He’s still a little raw but if he continues to develop he’ll be someone to keep an eye on moving forward.
Nate Legg Nate Legg 6'5" | C McLean | 2021 State VA | 6’5” C | McLean (#127 Overall)
Legg is a perfect candidate for a small school to play in the post as he isn’t the most athletic or biggest guy, but he has a blue collar mentality and is very productive in a number of ways. Legg is a guy who doesn’t need plays run for him to be productive, as he will fight to rebound the ball on both ends of the floor and has great fundamentals as he boxes out and knows where to be and is in the right place at the right time more often than not. He has good hands and soft touch around the rim, and he creates second chance opportunities for his team and eliminates them for other teams.
Hayden James Hayden James 5'9" | PG Heritage Christian | 2021 State VA | 5’9” PG | Heritage Christian (#130 Overall)
James doesn’t play in the biggest league or at the biggest school, but he’s been putting up numbers at Heritage Christian for years now and showed this summer he can bring it with the best of them. He’s a smaller guard but he’s quick and athletic, he can shoot it from deep with consistency and he is extremely crafty when he gets in the lane as a finisher. He’s part of a solid early recruiting class at Roanoke and he’s already off to a hot start this season as well.
Larry Wright Larry Wright 6'5" | C Potomac | 2021 State VA | 6’5” C | Potomac (#135 Overall)
When it comes to a blue collar type of big man, Wright is exactly that type of guy as he brings energy and a physical paint presence to his team. He’s the type of guy who can be successful without even running a play for him, as he gets most of his points on duck ins and put backs, and he can play in transition with guards too. He’s also a hard nosed defender who will match up with bigger guys and protect the rim still.
Jaden Curry Jaden Curry 5'11" | PG Peninsula Catholic | 2021 State VA | 5’11” PG | Peninsula Catholic (#144 Overall)
Curry has been a hot commodity among small schools throughout the summer and the fall, and he’s played extremely well in multiple events throughout the fall including the CBG Fall Series. A throwback style PG that is a floor general, Curry sets the tone on both ends of the floor and has a great feel for the game. He’s a pass first guy who always knows where his teammates are, he can touch the paint at will and he’s efficient and doesn’t turn the ball over either.
Maurice Vincent Maurice Vincent 5'10" | PG Carmel School | 2021 State VA | 5’10” PG | Carmel School (#145 Overall)
Vincent is one of the better unknown guards in the Richmond area, and was a big reason that Carmel School was able to make it to the VISAA Final Four last year. The 5’10” guard is a dual threat guy who can both score it and make others better, and he has a great skill set when he’s on the basketball. He can score it from multiple levels, he has great touch and he brings it on both ends of the floor.
Adrian Shaw Adrian Shaw 6'6" | C First Colonial | 2021 State VA | 6’6” C | First Colonial (#146 Overall)
Shaw is one of the more underrated bigs in the state, and while he’s still somewhat raw he has tons of potential and continues to develop nicely. He’s a big guy who takes up a lot of space in the paint, he’s an impact guy on the defensive end and on the glass with his size and he is very physical in the paint. He can score it over both shoulders, has improved his mobility and should see an uptick in production this season.
Tanyan Sutphin Tanyan Sutphin 6'0" | PG Floyd County | 2021 State VA | 6’0” PG | Floyd County (#149 Overall)
Sutphin doesn’t play in the biggest of markets, but he’s quietly been one of the top guards in SWVA over the past few years. A stocky and strong lead guard, Sutphin is a guy who impacts the game in a number of ways and does a little bit of everything for his team. He’s a threat to score from multiple levels with the ball in his hands, he can make others on his team better and he’s an excellent rebounder at his position as well.
