Continue ReadingAs we updated our new senior class rankings, we added over 40 new names to the list. There were quite a few reasons for the influx of new names, the biggest one being that we extended the rankings from 125 to 150 prospects, but we also had guys transfer in, guys transfer out, new names emerge and as always, we also just flat out forgot some guys which I’m sure we did in this one as well.
Regardless, we will take a look at the new names in our rankings, starting with part three featuring 10 guys we have added from the last rankings.
Omari Deveaux Omari Deveaux 5'10" | PG Douglas Freeman | 2021 State VA | 5’10” PG | Douglas Freeman (#103 Overall)
DeVeaux may not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of guards in the Richmond area, but he’s quietly been around for years and has gotten so much better since he was a 5’4” sophomore when I first watched him. He’s a guy who is a highly skilled floor general who plays with terrific pace, knows where his teammates are at all the time and has terrific fundamentals as a finisher and shooter. He’s a guy who is equally effective getting downhill and making plays for others as he is finishing with either hand or making shots from deep.
Scott Trundle Scott Trundle 6'2" | SG George Mason | 2021 State VA | 6’2” SG | George Mason (#104 Overall)
Mason is one of the smaller schools in NOVA so sometimes they get overlooked, but they have quite a few hoopers there with Trundle being one of their best. A high IQ and strong off guard, he’s a guy who can fill it up in bunches and is an absolute dead eye shooter from deep. He can work on or off the ball to create space and get open, he has great form that’s consistent with every shot and he doesn’t need much space to get his shot off.
Donovahn Keyes | 6’1” CG | Fairfax Christian (#105 Overall)
Keyes was part of a talented Fairfax Christian team that made a surprise run to the VISAA D3 quarterfinals last year, and with him at the helm again this year a return trip wouldn’t be as much of a surprise. Keyes has a ton of tools in his arsenal, including the ability to make shots from deep and make contested midrange shots look easy. He’s quick off the bounce, he has good feel and instincts and he seems to embrace the leadership role that comes as the senior guard as well.
Sekou Kaba Sekou Kaba 6'6" | C Fairfax Christian | 2021 State VA | 6’7” C | Fairfax Christian (#108 Overall)
A high motor throwback style kind of big man, Kaba mans the paint and owns it on both ends with his physical presence around the rim. He’s a guy who knows exactly what he is and doesn’t try to do anything that he doesn’t do well, he’s a guy who finishes everything around the basket and pursues the basketball extremely hard on the glass on both ends of the floor. He can run the floor with the guards, he has good hands and decent feet and he’s a big time shot blocker with good timing and a fearless approach defensively.
Obinna Chuke Obinna Chuke 6'5" | PF Potomac School | 2021 State VA | 6’5” PF | Potomac School (#112 Overall)
Chuke isn’t as much of a power forward as he is a combo or hybrid forward that’s comfortable playing both in the post and on the perimeter. The 6’5” forward is mobile and long and uses his length to block shots and rebound while also being able to finish over top of smaller defenders in the post. His best attribute however is his ability to shoot the basketball from deep as he has a smooth and consistent stroke and good range, and he’s a mismatch that can pull away the other teams bigs from the basket.
Brandon Jenkins Brandon Jenkins 5'10" | PG Benedictine | 2021 State VA | 5’10” PG | Benedictine (#113 Overall)
Jenkins was a guy I remember hearing about and seeing as an underclassmen, but it wasn’t until last year at Benedictine that he really made his mark as one of the top floor generals in the Richmond area. The 5’10” lead guard is a guy who can make shots from deep and score it when he needs to, but he’s best as a facilitating guard who sets the tone on both ends and runs the show, making his teammates better and doing whatever it takes to help his team win. He’s a good defender on and off the ball, he handles pressure and gets his team into sets and he’s a terrific passer with great vision both in transition and in the half court.
Sihle Mithethwa Sihle Mithethwa 6'1" | PG Orange Cou | 2021 State VA | 6’1” PG | Orange County (#114 Overall)
Mithethwa was a guy I had no idea about until he played with a very good 434 team in the CBG Fall Series, and he’s a guy that plenty of college coaches would like to have on their team with his physical style of play at the point guard position. He has a college ready body that he uses well when he gets downhill and in transition, he’s an unselfish guy that makes the right play and he gives his team a rebounding presence at the guard position. He’s smart and capable of making plays on both ends, and while he isn’t in the biggest market he’s a guy who can flat out play.
Trey Nelson Trey Nelson 5'10" | PG Patriot | 2021 State VA | 5’10” PG | Patriot (#115 Overall)
Nelson is a guy that basketball purists will love as he embodies the old school, throwback style of point guard who is a pass first leader that makes shots when his team needs him to. The 5’10” lefty is someone who understands the game beyond his years and effortlessly can run the show and make everyone on his team better. He sets the tone on both ends, he’s a knock down shooter from deep and he’s extremely poised at the lead guard spot.
Kamari Braswell Kamari Braswell 6'0" | SG Catholic | 2021 State VA | 6’0” SG | Catholic (#116 Overall)
One of the best sixth men in the 757 last year before injuries slowed him down, Braswell is a guy college coaches should get to know as he is the definition of buckets in bunches. The 6’0” guard is relentless as he comes at you time and time again, and if you aren’t quick on your feet he’s going to blow by you every time. He’s an absolute blur in transition and an athletic and crafty finisher, he can make shots from deep off the catch and off the bounce and it doesn’t take much to get him going.
Noah Adams Noah Adams 5'11" | PG Woodberry Forest | 2021 State VA | 5’11” PG | Woodberry Forest (#118 Overall)
Adams was a good floor general for Woodberry Forest last year as they continue to rebuild their program, and Shenandoah is hoping he can bring some of those same traits to their program as a floor general. Adams has good intangibles as a leader, he plays with a great motor and he’s very smart leading his team. He can pass the rock with both hands very well, he can score it when his team needs him to and he brings it defensively where he makes the game a nightmare for opposing ball handlers.
