Continue ReadingAs we updated our new senior class rankings, we added over 40 new names to the list. There were quite a few reasons for the influx of new names, the biggest one being that we extended the rankings from 125 to 150 prospects, but we also had guys transfer in, guys transfer out, new names emerge and as always, we also just flat out forgot some guys which I’m sure we did in this one as well.
Regardless, we will take a look at the new names in our rankings, starting with part two featuring 10 guys we have added from the last rankings.
Spencer Legg Spencer Legg 6'7" | PF Woodberry Forest | 2021 State VA | 6’7” PF | Woodberry Forest (#74 Overall)
Woodberry Forest is a school that is hard to get to and are known more for their excellence on the football field, but they always have some hoopers and Legg is one of the most underrated guys in the state. The 6’7” forward is a stretch guy with good size that can absolutely light it up from deep, and he’s a walking mismatch as he can put it on the deck against slower bigs and pull the defense out to allow his guards driving lanes. He’s a high motor and high IQ kid with a good skill set, and his ability to shoot it should make some college coaches very intrigued.
Dylan Collins Dylan Collins 6'9" | C VA Academy | 2021 State VA | 6’9” C | VA Academy (#84 Overall)
Collins is a late bloomer who had a great summer and fall with VA Premier which led to him committing to D2 Millersville in Pennsylvania. He’s a guy who was obviously blessed with the size to play the game, and he improved immensely on the offensive end to where he can run the floor, shoot it out to the three-point line and is always an option to catch and finish in the paint. He’s still a little raw but if he can continue to get more mobile and fill out he could be a steal at that level.
Zakari McQueen Zakari McQueen 6'1" | PG James River | 2021 State VA | 6’1” PG | James River (#88 Overall)
Last year McQueen was one of the breakout guys in the Richmond area at Matoaca, and he joins a talented James River team that needs a point guard this season. McQueen is a dual threat guard with good size that can score it from multiple levels and has good vision and playmaking ability as well. He’s a guy who has natural instincts as a scorer as he plays with good pace, can knock down tough shots off the bounce and can move off the ball with his shooting ability as well.
Zion Clark Zion Clark 6'0" | PG Blue Ridge | 2021 State VA | 6’0” PG | Blue Ridge (#91 Overall)
Clark is a very talented and athletic guard who often gets overlooked because of how good his team is, but he’s going to be an important part on a very talented team this year. Clark is a freak athlete who can play way above the rim, and thrives in transition with his end-to-end speed and finishing ability. He’s a guy with blow by speed, he can knock down shots from deep and he’s a gritty defender as well.
Junior Bonsu Junior Bonsu 6'6" | PF Battlefield | 2021 State VA | 6’6” PF | Battlefield (#95 Overall)
Bonsu is an under rated guy in Prince William County that doesn’t take long to love when you watch him. He’s a little on the short side but he makes up for it with his high motor, his strength and his blue collar mentality on both ends of the floor. He’s a paint presence with his athleticism and strength, but he’s also a guy who can play in transition and switch on guards in the halfcourt, and he’s a big time finisher around the rim and can stretch the floor out to the free throw line extended.
Amarion Wilson Amarion Wilson 6'4" | PF Kecoughtan | 2021 State VA | 6’4” PF | Kecoughtan (#96 Overall)
Wilson is a guy I saw recently at the VBSC Feast Jam and was immediately impressed with his athleticism and production in the post at just 6’4”. While he isn’t the tallest guy, he’s someone who plays physical in the paint, is mobile enough to switch onto guards and he’s a freak athlete that makes energy plays above the rim on both ends of the floor. He’s perfect to catch lobs from driving guards, hit the glass for second chance opportunities and thrives in transition where he can run with guards and use his athleticism above the rim.
John Sondheim John Sondheim 6'6" | C Yorktown | 2021 State VA | 6’6” C | Yorktown (#97 Overall)
Sondheim is the big on a team that plays an uptempo system and he fits it perfectly with his ability to run the floor, score in the paint and pass the rock out of the post to cutters and shooters with ease. He’s a throwback kind of big in the sense that he can seal and has great hands to catch post entries, and he can score the ball over either shoulder and finishes well through contact. He’s always in the right place at the right time, he plays with a good motor on both ends of the floor and he’s very smart and patient with his touches as well.
Nate Arrington Nate Arrington 6'5" | PF Hylton | 2021 State VA | 6’5” PF | Hylton (#99 Overall)
Arrington is another throwback big that eats in the paint but he has also has some new school tendencies with his ability to stretch the floor and run the floor with his guards as well. While he’s a little on the shorter side, Arrington has great touch that allows him to finish over defenders, he plays with a good motor on both ends and has great instincts to find open space against zones where he can catch and use a power dribble to find contact and finish around the rim. Defensively he’s very versatile as he can switch onto perimeter guys and can be used in multiple spots in the press as well.
Dayvon Faulk Dayvon Faulk 6'5" | SF Stonebridge | 2021 State VA | 6’5” C | Tuscarora (#100 Overall)
Another undersized big man that plays much bigger than he is, Faulk is a bruising presence in the paint who can will do all of the dirty work for his team. He has excellent fundamentals in the post that allows him to protect the rim and rebound like someone much bigger than him, he plays with great energy on both ends and he doesn’t try to do more than what he excels at. Offensively, he can score on put backs and post ups, and he’s an excellent passer out of the post too.
Pharaoh Lassiter | 6’2” SG | Bethel (#102 Overall)
Lassiter is a guy who could be in the running for top scorer on the Peninsula this year at Bethel after showing flashes of brilliance as a junior last year. The 6’2” off guard is as smooth as they come as he can get to his spots with ease off the bounce, he can play off the ball and works to get open and he’s a true three level scorer with touch and the ability to make crafty and tough shots from all over. Bethel will need a go-to scorer this year and Lassiter is the guy to get it done.
