Tuesday’s Daily Dive: 12/1
In this article:
Week 2 is underway and we have got a big slate of high school hoops going on this week in Indiana. Let us dive on in and take a look at some highlights of Tuesday’s night of hoops.
2 Blackhawk Double-Doubles, Furst makes history
Fort Wayne Blackhawk played their first game last night and completely dominated 4A Fort Wayne North, 98-48. One of the main reasons for that is because the Braves had two double-doubles from seniors Zane Burke Zane Burke 6'2" | SG Blackhawk Christian | 2021 State IN (28 pts, 11rbs) and Caleb Furst Caleb Furst 6'9" | PF Blackhawk Christian | 2021 State #34 Nation IN (24pts, 13 rbs). Although that was huge by both men, the even bigger story of the night was that Furst (Purdue commit) became the all-time leading scorer in Blackhawk Christian history. Big night for the Braves and they will look to continue their roll when they host 4A New Haven on Friday.
5 Red Devils score double figures
Last night saw Indianapolis Pike defeat Plainfield, 75-50. Was not really as competitive as one might expect as Pike pretty much controlled the whole game from the opening tip. Senior Edward Jones Edward Jones 6'5" | PF Indianapolis Pike | 2021 State IN was the team’s leading scorer with 16 points but he was not the only Red Devil to score in double figures as four others also were a major part of the 25 point win. The others were J.J. Louden J.J. Louden 6'4" | PG Desert Valley Prep | 2022 NV with 14 points, Devon Woods Devon Woods 5'10" | PG Pike | 2023 State IN with 12 points, Omari Ferguson with 10 points, and Ryan Conwell Ryan Conwell 6'2" | SG Pike | 2022 State #155 Nation IN with 10 points as well. Big win for Pike here but they will have another big game ahead of them as they travel to Ben Davis on Friday.
Evansville Memorial wins close on
In a back-forth-battle, the Evansville Memorial Tigers defeated the Mouth Vernon (Posey) Wildcats, 53-49. Player of the game for Memorial was senior guard Justin Waiz with 14 points. Waiz is one of the more overlooked players in the state as he is a playmaking guard that can score at all three levels. Waiz and the Tigers start the season 1-0 before they go on to play 4A Terre Haute South on Friday. Mouth Vernon (Posey) will look to gain their first win of the season as they host 2A North Posey on Friday, as well.
