Continue ReadingRecruiting never stops. Many of the basketball players thriving in the high school level are attracting attention from college coaches. These are several of the hot names throughout Tennessee.
Beech wing Kristian Shaw Kristian Shaw 6'6" | SG Beech | 2022 State TN maintains college recruiting interest from: Tennessee State, Lipscomb, Lincoln Memorial, Western Kentucky, Arkansas Little Rock, Lee. Tennessee State University is fully aware of Shaw’s development.
Newberry College was one of the first to reach out to Gus Davenport Gus Davenport 6'5" | SG Cannon County | 2022 State TN . Gus plays off the beaten path as a starter for Cannon County. His statistics are strong and he works on his game year-round. Working in his advantage is the height of 6-foot-5. Newberry College resides in South Carolina.
BJ Edwards cut his list to six schools. The phrasing of his announcement was “top schools” , but I discussed it with him in a little more detail. These are his final six schools, even though BJ will first be allowed to sign to a college basketball program in November of 2021. Often, the elite of the elite players will verbally commit in the spring of their junior seasons. BJ falls into that category. Most likely, he will have opportunities at all of the schools he would need to hear from by that time with a handful of exceptions. Teams like Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, Arizona can come in late. Edwards is not interested in waiting and he feels he has a good handle on all of the offered schools already. So, he cut his list to six.
Jonathan Zhao, back in August, was discussing college basketball opportunities with Carson Newman and Bryn Athyn (Philadelphia). Expect him to commit very, very soon. Below you can see notes on him from August.
Jonathan Zhao (Sevier County) Unranked in TN
2021, WF, 6-foot-4, 4.0 GPA, 25 ACT, Wears #23 with Tennessee Bobcats 17u
Latest Looks: Maryville offered Jonathan this weekend. Carson-Newman University and Bryn Athyn College both keep in touch. “They aren’t offers but they’re showing a lot of interest,” said Zhao. Previously, Lee and Centre College inquired about the tall wing.
Jarred Hall Jarred Hall 6'8" | SF Lebanon | 2023 State #65 Nation TN is still a sophomore. He is not a common sophomore hooper though. Hall proved this past summer with EAB 15u that he is a high ceiling guy. Blessed with 6-foot-8 size and a thin, lithe body, Hall looks the part of a Division One prospect. Several colleges agree. He continually communicates with Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt, and Ole Miss.
Toris Woods (Bolivar Central) heard from two junior colleges in the last little bit: Walters State, Columbia State.
Jack Brown Jack Brown 6'4" | SG Maryville | 2021 State TN (Maryville) is making inroads with many Division III and NAIA programs, but aspires to play D2 basketball. The d2 landing spot is extremely reasonable for the explosive two-guard. Look for him to develop interest in the adjoining states by spring.
Lipscomb Assistant Coach Kevin Carroll keeps up with Jakobi Gillespie Jakobi Gillespie 6'0" | PG Greeneville | 2022 State TN (Greeneville).
Max McAllister Max McAllister 6'3" | CG Nolensville | 2021 State TN (Nolensville) is now in contact with University of Charleston, Ohio Northern University, and Grinnell College (Iowa).
