Being the middle child in the form of a school is never any easy thing, but a lot of great basketball talent can be found whenever you step into a gym at the 3A level. The 3A state championship will be tough to come by this year and there are a handful of contenders that won’t even make this list as I kept it to only the top 3 to watch. Continue reading for a look at the top 3 teams to watch at the 3A level in the state of Idaho in no particular order.
Fruitland Grizzlies: The Grizzlies may be a surprise team to beat this year after finishing in third place at the state tournament last season. The Grizzlies have quietly been putting together a really solid program and they will be returning most of their roster for the 2020-21 season. Fruitland will look to Hyrum Lindsey Hyrum Lindsey 6'4" | PF Fruitland | 2021 State ID , a 6’4″ shooting guard/forward with the ability to finish really well at the rim or step back and hit the jumper from long range, and Nolan Bower Nolan Bower 6'8" | C Fruitland | 2022 State ID , a 6’8″ forward that loves to dominate in the paint, to lead the way and attempt to bring a championship back to the Grizzlies.
Marsh Valley Eagles: Marsh Valley had a tough time at the state tournament last season, but they return the majority of their roster with lots of high level game experience for another quest for a state championship. The Eagles will look to Bracken Howell Bracken Howell 6'1" | SG Marsh Valley | 2021 State ID , a shooting guard with a great jumper and excellent passing skills, and Cody Hansen Cody Hansen 6'2" | SG Marsh Valley | 2021 State ID , a point guard/shooting guard that has a high basketball IQ and lots of great leadership skills, to take the helm and guide Marsh Valley on a successful season.
Sugar-Salem Diggers: The Diggers have put together a really solid program at the 3A level and their girls team is dominant as well. They will look to defend their state title this year with a deep roster full of quality players. Sugar-Salem will run most of their offense through Crew Clark Crew Clark 6'0" | PG Sugar-Salem | 2021 State ID , one of the best shooters in the state and an offensive threat at all levels. The Diggers know what it takes to win a state championship and they will not be slowing down in the 2020-21 season.
