As the 2020-21 season quickly approaches, I am very anxious to see how the 2A for a state championship pans out. The 2A classification is always produces one of the most competitive tournaments in the state, and this season will prove just that. A few teams have either moved to join the 2A level, or recently departed, and there will be some new-look teams that will make this season all the more interesting. I have complied my list of the top 3 teams to watch during this season, but there are at least a handful more that will also be producing quality games and will hopefully be making a run at the state title as well. North Fremont Huskies: The Huskies will be the team to beat this season as they attempt to repeat as 2A state champions. They will be returning the majority of their roster and they have been a really successful team in the past couple of season. Jordan LenzJordanLenz6'0" | PGNorth Fremont | 2022StateID, a 6’0" shooting guard with a deadly jumper and the ability to get to the rim, and
Luke HillLukeHill5'11" | SGNorth Fremont | 2021StateID, a high energy defender and great overall player, to lead the way for North Fremont. The Huskies have been preparing all offseason and I expect them to be at full strength in time for their first game.
West Side Pirates: West Side will be looking to return to the state championship this season where they fell to the North Fremont Huskies during last season. They are also returning the majority of their roster and they have plenty of talent to help them make a run at the state tournament. Led by
Bryler Shurtliff
BrylerShurtliff6'1" | SGWest Side | 2022StateID, a guard/forward with the ability to play well in the paint or on the perimeter, and
Blaze BrownBlazeBrown5'10" | PGWest Side | 2022StateID, a knockdown shooter who rebounds extremely well from the guard position, the Pirates will look to make a deep run in March in order to bring home some hardware.
Ambrose Archers: My underdog candidate for the 2020-21 season, the Archers are making the move to the 2A level after winning the 1A DI championship last season. I am very interested to see if they will rise to the occasion and they definitely have a capable roster with lots of high level game experience. The Archers will be led by
Johnny SugarmanJohnnySugarman6'0" | PGAmbrose | 2022StateID, a dynamic point guard who can shoot from outside and has great handles, and
Hudson HughesHudsonHughes5'11" | PGAmbrose | 2022StateID, a shooter with the ability to rebound well and play solid defense.
