Continue ReadingAhead of the 2020-21 season, there are a lot of great players that are still underrated in the state of Idaho. Narrowing it down to only 3 players has been extremely difficult and there are a lot of excellent players who will unfortunately be left off of this list as I did not have an extra 6 days to write a 24-page paper about all of the great talent in southern Idaho alone. In the following paragraphs, you will see a brief breakdown of each individual’s game, as well as my personal opinion on their predicted impact this season. Continue reading for a look my list of the top 3 players to watch this season in the southwestern corner of Idaho in no particular order.
Cade Randall Cade Randall 5'10" | PG Kuna | 2021 State ID , Kuna: Cade is one of the best players in the state and he will be looking to improve his output in the upcoming season. He can shoot the ball from anywhere inside of the gym doors and he has the ability to catch and shoot, shoot off of the dribble, or put the ball on the floor and get all of the way to the hoop. He will be a leader for the Kavemen as they attempt to make a deep run in districts, and hopefully beyond. Watch for Cade to be catching fire in a gym nearest you!
Joe Mpoyo Joe Mpoyo 6'4" | SG Meridian | 2021 State ID , Meridian: Mpoyo is one of the best defenders in the state at any level and his energy is contagious when he is on the floor. The Warriors will also be looking to Joe for a lot of offensive help this year as he attempts to help Meridian make an appearance at the state tournament. Joe has a great basketball mind and his impact on both ends of the floor will be felt all throughout conference play.
Johnny Sugarman Johnny Sugarman 6'0" | PG Ambrose | 2022 State ID , Ambrose: The only player on this list not from the 5A, Sugarman is a great basketball player who could easily compete at the 5A level. He is an offensive threat at all three levels and routinely gives his defenders headaches. Johnny has the mind of a coaches son and the extra hours spent in the gym will be on full display in the upcoming season. Sugarman is one of the best pure point guards in the state and he should not be overlooked simply because he plays for a smaller school.
