Continue ReadingAh yes, northern Idaho. Many players are slept on coming out of northern Idaho as they do not come from “The Big City” and they are often overlooked as a result. However, many of the teams from northern Idaho end up playing a lot of games against high level competition in Washington and they are always ready to play in March at the state tournament. That being said, it has been extremely difficult to pick only 3 players to place on this list, but I will say that there are many great players that did not get on this list that still deserve a look when considering basketball nearly being played in Canada. Continue reading for a look at the top 3 players to watch from northern Idaho in no particular order.
Titus Yearout Titus Yearout 6'3" | PG Lapwai | 2022 State ID , Lapwai: Titus is easily in the conversation for state player of the year at any level. He is a dynamic player that nearly averaged a triple-double last season and is willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win games. The Wildcats have been a dominant program for years and the 2020-21 season will seem no different with Yearout leading the way. Titus is an elite scorer who also loves to play defense and turn his steals into instant offense. This kid can flat out play!
Blake Buchanan Blake Buchanan 6'10" | PF Lake City | 2023 State #172 Nation ID , Lake City: Everyone’s favorite big has made a major shake-up among 5A state contenders. His recent transfer to Lake City means that their roster has a lot of young talent, with Buchanan anchoring the center. At 6’9″, the center can do it all from knocking down a three to posting and finding a cutter, Blake is truly one of a kind. It goes without saying that he is a tremendous rim protector and his defensive game is one of his strong suits. Lake City may be the team to beat up north, but our next player may not like me saying that and will definitely have something to say about it…
Caden McLean Caden McLean 6'0" | PG Post Falls | 2021 State ID , Post Falls: McLean is one of the greatest shooters in the state and it does not take long for him to get hot or feel as though the rim has tripled in size. He can get going in a hurry from deep and must be located at all times on the perimeter. With the recent graduation of some great players at Post Falls, McLean will have the ball in his hands more often and he will be shouldering more of the offensive weight. The 5A northern race will be exciting this year to say the least.
