Continue ReadingWith the 2020-21 season on the horizon and many teams and leagues gearing up for an unusual season, it will be very interesting to watch who rises to the top and who cannot adapt to the changes and variation that this season will provide. I have narrowed my list down to my personal top 3 bigs that I think will have the biggest impact throughout the state. Unfortunately, this means that I will be leaving out some players that definitely deserve to be on this list, and hopefully they will be able to climb the ladder this season and show me that I am wrong for failing to place them in my top 3. Continue reading for a breakdown of the top 3 bigs to watch in Idaho this season in no particular order.
Day Day Higgins Day Day Higgins 6'8" | C Lakeside | 2021 State ID , Lakeside: Higgins is one of the best bigs in the state and he will be attempting to defend his position as the conference player of the year. The Knights will look to Day Day to be a leader and a great source of offensive firepower as well as a leader for grabbing rebounds and blocking shots. His presence is always felt in the paint and he can matchup with any big in the state, regardless of classification or level. Look for Higgins to have a great season in 2020-21.
Malachi Bullington Malachi Bullington 7'0" | C North Idaho Christian | 2022 State ID , North Idaho Christian: Malachi is the tallest player in the state currently at 7’0″ and he plays up to his height. He is a tremendous shot blocker who has a massive defensive presence that deters opposing players from even stepping foot in the paint, let alone attempting to shoot a shot in the key. He has a great understanding of the game and can play at a very high level. Don’t let the small private school fool you, Bullington is a force at any level who can play with the best of the bigs.
Blake Buchanan Blake Buchanan 6'10" | PF Lake City | 2023 State #172 Nation ID , Lake City: The youngest player on my list, Blake has proven himself to be a dominant player already and will continue to advance his skills and abilities while also working on his body and heightening his game overall. A recent move to Lake City will see Buchanan competing at the 5A level in a tough conference where he will attempt to surprise the 5A SIC in March at the state tournament. Buchanan can do a little bit of everything on the court and he is an all around matchup nightmare for any team.
