Across southern Idaho, there have been a lot of close games between teams from random conferences which shows that the state has high level basketball all over. In small town Idaho, a lot of games have come down to the wire with clutch performances already arriving. At the same time, there are a lot of teams that have been able to practice for much longer than other teams, and their cohesiveness, lack of fatigue, and overall skill show the extra time spent in the gym. Continue reading for a look at a couple of games from southern Idaho during week 1.
Mountain Home vs. Kimberly: The Kimberly Bulldogs put up a valiant fight against the Mountain Home Tigers, but a pair of clutch free throws pushed the Tigers to victory in this dog fight of a game that finished with a score of 33-29. Brandon Bethel hit 2 clutch free throws with a few seconds remaining in the game to push the lead to 4, making it nearly impossible for the Bulldogs to tie the game or win. Bethel finished with a great performance of 21 points. For the Bulldogs, they did not have any players in double figures, but Jaxon Bair led the team with a 9 point outing.
Camas County vs. Garden Valley: In Garden Valley, the hometown Wolverines were able to pick up a solid win over the Camas County Mushers by 14 points. For the Wolverines, Covy Kelly Covy Kelly 6'0" | PG Garden Valley | 2021 State ID scored 12 points and added 5 rebounds while hitting a pair of 3’s. The Mushers were led by Breken Clarke scoring a game-high 25 points and the only other player in double digits for Camas County was Emmett Palan with 10 points. The game showed the skill and ability of the smaller schools in Idaho with Garden Valley nearly putting up 70 points and a solid offensive production from both teams.
