Stars Shine in Double OT Thriller
Coming into the season, the Silver Creek-Fort Wayne Blackhawk matchup at the Forum Tipoff Classic was the most anticipated game of the year. Despite Trey Kaufman Trey Kaufman 6'8" | PF Silver Creek | 2021 State #39 Nation IN not playing in this one, it lived up to the expectations. Silver Creek came back from down 15 at one point to tie the game and send it to overtime without leading in the game. In the overtime period, the Dragons came back again and were able to tie the game with a layup at the buzzer by Branden Northern Branden Northern 5'11" | PG Silver Creek | 2022 State IN . However, in the second overtime period, foul trouble did the Dragons in, and Fort Wayne Blackhawk was able to withstand the Silver Creek effort. Caleb Furst Caleb Furst 6'9" | PF Blackhawk Christian | 2021 State #34 Nation IN was outstanding with 23 points, 21 rebounds, and 7 assists in the win. Kooper Jacobi Kooper Jacobi 6'6" | PF Silver Creek | 2021 State IN , Branden Northern Branden Northern 5'11" | PG Silver Creek | 2022 State IN , and Zane Burke Zane Burke 6'2" | SG Blackhawk Christian | 2021 State IN also played very well with 33, 32, and 31 points respectively. Silver Creek is back in action next Friday when they host Jeffersonville. Blackhawk will play next on Friday at Fort Wayne Canterbury.
Naylon Thompson Naylon Thompson 6'5" | PG Bishop Luers | 2021 State IN and Langdon Hatton Langdon Hatton 6'9" | C North Harrison | 2021 State IN Hit 1,000 Points
Two of the top 20 seniors in the state hit milestone marks in their high school careers on Saturday night. Naylon Thompson Naylon Thompson 6'5" | PG Bishop Luers | 2021 State IN currently holds offers to IUPUI and Cleveland State. He had 25 points to help lead Fort Wayne Luers to a big 63-57 road win over Fort Wayne Canterbury. Langdon Hatton Langdon Hatton 6'9" | C North Harrison | 2021 State IN has committed to William & Mary next season, and he showed why on Saturday. With outstanding defense by Curt Hopf Curt Hopf 6'8" | PF Barr-Reeve | 2021 State IN , Hatton was still able to score 15 of the team’s first 17 points in the game. He ended with 17 in the 38-61 loss to Barr-Reeve, one of the best teams in the state. Both of these players have bright futures ahead of them, both this season and at the next level.
Lawrence North Beats #8 Team in the Country
Lawrence North hosted Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller in the final game of the Forum Tipoff Classic on Friday night. This was a star-studded game that featured 7 potential Division 1 players. For Lawrence North, DJ Hughes DJ Hughes 6'8" | PF Lawrence North | 2021 State #219 Nation IN (Butler), CJ Gunn, and Shamar Avance Shamar Avance 6'1" | PG Lawrence North | 2021 State IN . For Moeller, Logan Duncomb Logan Duncomb 6'9" | C Moeller | 2021 State #74 Nation OH (Indiana), Alex Williams Alex Williams 6'5" | SF Moeller | 2021 State OH (Furman), Aidan Noyes Aidan Noyes 6'6" | SF Moeller | 2021 State OH (Richmond), and Evan Mahaffey Evan Mahaffey 6'6" | SF Moeller | 2022 State #160 Nation OH . This game was back and forth with neither team able to take control. Despite a Lawrence North lead late, missed free throws led to a game-tying layup at the buzzer for Mahaffey to send it to overtime. Even in overtime, each team was hitting shot after shot, and with the game tied and one second to go, Shamar Avance Shamar Avance 6'1" | PG Lawrence North | 2021 State IN drove to the rim and was fouled. Avance would hit the first free throw to give the Wildcats the win, 58-57. Avance led both teams with 23 in the win. Gunn and Hughes added 15 and 14. For Moeller, Alex Williams Alex Williams 6'5" | SF Moeller | 2021 State OH led with 19, and Logan Dumcomb had 13 points and 10 boards for his double-double.
