Columbian got a hot start with 10 points from both Logan Beaston Logan Beaston 6'4" | SG Tiffin Columbian | 2023 State OH and Lj Reaves in the first quarter. Sandusky stayed resilient and cut the Columbian lead to just one possession at times in the second half but couldn’t ever grab the lead away from the Tornadoes. Among players not mentioned below, Bryce Burns and Jaden Myers each scored in double-figures for the Tornadoes to help them secure the victory. Here were the top performers from the contest.
Logan Beaston Logan Beaston 6'4" | SG Tiffin Columbian | 2023 State OH 6’4 SG Tiffin Columbian 2023: If there’s a better shooter in the state in the 2023 class, I haven’t found him yet. Beaston was making contested shots, playing patient on his drives. His misses are very close to going in, sign of a great shooter. Not a great athlete when discussing him as a college prospect but for this high school league he’s a monster on defense, getting steals all over the place and his lower body strength is potentially an overlooked aspect of his game. Beaston has a high potential but is already one of the better high school players in his region of the state.
Lj Reaves, 6’4 SF Tiffin Columbian 2021: Reaves had a lot of success early using his athleticism to get to the paint and gliding in for layups. Reaves was named first team all state for the final four bound Tornadoes football team this season. While his future is on the gridiron, he forms a nice wing duo with Beaston for the Tornadoes.
Daylen Green, 6’2 SG Sandusky 2023: Green shined for Sandusky from the guard position, scoring in a variety of ways for the Blue Streaks. Green knocked down a couple 3-pointers and has a decent amount of wiggle for a Sophomore guard. His handle let him down a couple times, losing the ball trying to dribble through traffic. I was also impressed by his off-ball defense, making a couple heads up plays. Green is tasked with the role of filling the shoes that Tahj Staveskie Tahj Staveskie 6'0" | PG Sandusky | 2020 State OH left for the Blue Streaks.
Davion Henry, 6’5 C Sandusky 2021: Henry had a productive game, using his massive size advantage in the paint to score and grab offensive rebounds against the shorter Tornadoes. Henry found himself in the right positions to get put-back opportunities and beat Columbian down the floor for a couple easy layups. With Green and Henry as an outside-inside pair, Sandusky should still be competitive in this SBC this season.
