It was week 4 of the Rock N Ball Winter League in Indiana. Prep Hoops Illinois had it covered from wall to wall. Here we dive into some of the top performers in our Rock N Ball Week 4: 2022 Standouts!
Xavier Lewis Xavier Lewis 6'7" | PF Tf South | 2022 State IL (TF South)
Lewis is a top 10 prospect in the 2022 class. We liked the progress we saw since we last saw him in the late summer. The power forward shined on the defensive end being able to defend all over the floor. Protected the rim inside, guarded on the perimeter moving his feet, and even swatted a jump shot. Offensively he was very good getting on the offensive glass for second chance opportunities. Extremely bouncy in the paint with an explosive second jump. Hit a corner three along with a one dribble baseline jumper. At times he has a bit of a straight line shot. When he puts arc on it the shot usually goes in.
Kyle Thomas Kyle Thomas 6'8" | C St. Joesph | 2022 State #183 Nation IL (St. Joseph’s)
What a night for the top center in the 2022 class. Thomas was fantastic! He seems to be growing into his body and frame. Ran the floor hard throughout the night for lobs. Powerful in the paint as a finisher. The improved skill and mobility were what made the biggest impression on us. Hit a mid-range jumper and three back to back. Looked very comfortable taking both of them. Had an and-1 in the pick/roll executing it to perfection. Rebounded at a high level throughout the night.
Robbie Avila Robbie Avila 6'9" | PF Oak Forest | 2022 State #225 Nation IL (Oak Forest)
Avila is another one of the more highly touted prospects in the 2022 class. His skill level is his calling card. For his team they were playing him as a point forward. The natural face up forward isn’t the most explosive athlete, but his skill more than makes up for it. Great passer finding guys in the open floor and from the perimeter cutting. He moves well without the ball on cuts to the hoop himself for scores. Efficient when the ball touches his hands in the post. Sound footwork and a soft touch. Had several conversions running the floor.
Marquel Saleek (Willowbrook)
Saleek emerged on our radar in a recent film room series. The Wilowbrook guard is a capable shooter that knocked in a couple from three. Plays strong with the ball in his hands. Can play both on and off the ball.
Tavarius Vinson Tavarius Vinson 7'0" | C Dyett | 2022 State IL (Dyett)
First look at the seven foot center from Dyett in a while. Obviously very intriguing with that height and length. Still pretty raw. Struggled finishing a few times including getting stuffed by the rim. Did show flashes with a seal where he was fouled. When he gets set up and his feet under him he has a chance to be effective. Sometimes gets sped up. Only played in spurts. Solid rebounder and has the potential to be a plus shot blocker. We will continue to track the progress.
Bryce Moore Bryce Moore 6'5" | PG Carmel | 2022 State IL (Carmel)
Moore is a rangy guard that we believe will continue to round out as a two way player. Tough finishing in the paint. Quality defender.
Will Grudzinski (Barrington)
New name that jumped on our radar. Clean three point shot that he knocked down at a nice clip. Good size for a small forward at 6’4” and presents some athleticism as well.
