Recruiting Report: Kyle Thomas (2022)
St. Joseph’s junior Kyle Thomas Kyle Thomas 6'8" | C St. Joesph | 2022 State #183 Nation IL is the top center in the 2022 class. He has great size and strength on the interior. We caught him last Friday at the Rock N Ball Winter League where he was dominant for his Showtime squad. He seems to be growing into his body and frame. Ran the floor hard throughout the night for lobs. Powerful in the paint as a finisher. The improved skill and mobility were what made the biggest impression on us. Hit a mid-range jumper and three back to back. Looked very comfortable taking both of them. Had an and-1 in the pick/roll executing it to perfection. Rebounded at a high level throughout the night. Physical presence around the hoop on both ends of the floor that has made strides in his skill game.
We caught up with Thomas to see what he has been working on during this unique time.
“I have really gotten in the gym and worked on certain aspects of my game that I needed to develop and work on. I have improved tremendously on my mid-range and three point shot becoming more consistent in the catch and shoot. Also working on ball handling and bringing the ball down the court.”
Currently Thomas holds offers from four programs including a new one from a Pac 12 power on Wednesday night.
“Illinois, Nebraska, Western Illinois, and Arizona.”
Thomas dived into each program that has extended an offer with PHI along with what he likes most about them.
Illinois
“Just the fact that I’m close to home and the program is going in the right direction.”
Nebraska
“I have always known about Nebraska just because of Glynn (Watson) so just knowing someone that has been through the program is comforting.”
Western Illinois
“Knowing that I’m around people that have helped with this journey like Nick Irvin who is the brother of my AAU coach Mike Irvin and knowing that they are around is nice.”
Arizona
“Obviously their history with big men is an upside having DeAndre Ayton as a number one pick a few years back. The weather and program itself is all just amazing.”
Thomas rattled off a list of schools that haven’t offered who he is in regular communication with.
“Indiana, Florida Atlantic, Ohio State, Toledo, Purdue, Miami (OH), Tulsa, Virginia Tech, Iowa, Notre Dame, and Michigan.”
Any zoom calls or zoom visits?
“No visits around campus or anything like that, but I have had calls with Illinois, Ohio State, and Indiana.”
He says he isn’t really thinking too much about recruiting at this point, but did mention Indiana as a school he would like to visit once the NCAA allows travel once again.
Thomas currently checks in at #3 overall in the 2022 PHI Rankings and #1 center.
