Schools have been playing for a couple of weeks now so most of them are starting to gel and have an identity. Unfortunately, COVID-19 almost derailed the week of hoops, and if fact, did derailed for some Houston area teams. Thankfully, RCS Sports was able to still host their Hoopsgiving event and there was plenty of talent to go around. They were able to get some high level, public and private school, teams together to square off in a safe, yet, exciting environment. There was plenty of players to watch and here’s some of the unsigned prospects that stood out.
Josh Farmer Josh Farmer 6'8" | PF Sharpstown | 2021 State #164 Nation TX
6’8 F/G | Sharpstown HS | 2021
Josh is already a long athlete, but during Sharpstown’s match up against Goose Creek Memorial, it seemed like he played even longer that he actually was. This caused major disturbances for the opposing team offensively, as Farmer was able to block and deflect the ball on several occasions. Offensively, his vision was exceptional, getting the ball to teammates in advantageous situations. In addition, he was able to use his size and athleticism to create easy looks for himself. If he is not on your radar, he should be.
Trey Miller Trey Miller 6'2" | PG Concordia Lutheran | 2022 State TX
6’2 PG | Concordia Lutheran HS | 2022
Trey has emerged as a big time leader for the Crusaders. There is not anything on the floor that he is unable to do at a high level. Against Premiere Academy, Trey showed his craftiness and was able to be effective despite the 7 foot, Dok Muordor lurking around the paint. He did a good job of turning defense into offense, getting in transition and offsetting Premiere’s ability to block and alter shots. Offensively, he was able to get to his spots and knock down shots consistently. He ended the game with 21 points, 4 assists and 4 steals
Will Young Will Young 6'2" | PG Shadow Creek | 2021 State TX
6’1 PG | Premier Academy HS | 2021
Will moved extremely well on the floor, specifically on the offensive end. Typically, on a team with a lot of talented guards, it can be difficult to modify your game to be effective without the ball in your hands as much. Will has been able to make the transition pretty successfully. Against Concordia Lutheran, Young found ways to get open without the ball and proceeded to make shots. When he did have the ball in his hands, he was able to create space for himself and also generated good looks for his teammates.
David Tubek
6’8 G | Premier Academy HS | 2022
David can score in a variety of ways and that was on full display at the RCS Sports Hoopsgiving. His size and strength allowed him to shed off defenders when he was in the paint or when he is drove to the cup. He was able to stop at the drop of a dime, when on the bounce, lift up and make mid ranged jumpers. On the perimeter, he was efficient from the three point arc, regardless of if it was contested or not. Count them. That’s all three levels. When David plays with the mindset that he is going to carry his team with his scoring, he is extremely difficult to stop.
Aaron Scott Aaron Scott 6'7" | SF Legacy School of Sports Science | 2021 State TX
6’7 G/F | Legacy SSS | 2021
Not entirely sure why or how this young man is still available at this point, but he is a steady and consistent player. And when Legacy faced off with OD Wyatt, nothing changed that fact. “The Mid Range Assassin” (as I like to call him) was extremely efficient scoring wise. He showed his ability to defend multiple defenders as well as his ability to pass the ball well. He did everything that his team needed him to do. When there was a rebound that needed to be had, he was there. When they needed a score on the offensive end, he was there. When they needed a steal or a defensive play, he was there. He was extremely dependable and, well, like previously mentioned, steady and consistent.
Noah Kon Noah Kon 6'1" | PG Houston Christian | 2021 State TX
6’1 PG | Houston Christian HS | 2021
Noah continues to impress in this early high school season. Against The Woodlands Christian Academy, he scored 24 points and was an absolute blur on the floor. His speed and athleticism helped him get to the rim, seemingly at will. When he noticed that his defender was off balanced, he was able to capitalize on it by lifting up and knocking down shots. He also kept all of his teammates involved, finding them all game and creating good looks for them. Defensively, he was able to stay in front of his man on the perimeter and played great help defense, often leading to turnovers.
