2020 has been a tough and challenging year to say the least. I thought it’d be refreshing to look back on some of my best basketball memories from the calendar year.
Here is Part 1 of our look back:
Random Memories Of 2020 – Part 1
Let’s look back again and see some more of my best memories of 2020.
Let’s Get Ready IV
Coach Dell Johnson’s event has become a must attend showcase. Jaylen HodgesJaylenHodges6'3" | PGBridgeport | 2021StateMI and Keyon MenifieldKeyonMenifield6'2" | PGFlint Beecher | 2021StateMI put on a show offensively. Meanwhile players like Malachi BlackMalachiBlack6'7" | PFDetroit University Prep Art & Design | 2021StateMI, Nick EllisNickEllis6'7" | PFGrand Ledge | 2022StateMI, Teddy Williams
TeddyWilliams6'5" | PFGrand Ledge | 2023StateMI, and Brady Titus
BradyTitus5'10" | PGTri-Unity Christian | 2022StateMI showed big time improvements in their games.
The rise of Malik OlafioyeMalikOlafioye6'2" | PGEcorse | 2023State#59NationMI (2023, PG, Ecorse)
I’ve seen Malik play and it’s always been obvious that he’s a unique and special talent. But his continued growth as a player is miraculous. He’s always been a tremendous ball handler and creator offensively. Now he has his jump shot grooving and continues to get stronger. That’s why, in my opinion, he’s rose to a top 50 2023 prospect in the country.
The David Barns Memorial Showcase
This was a new event, held the day before the Prep Hoops

The David Barns Memorial Showcase
This was a new event, held the day before the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo. What an incredible weekend of basketball that became. I saw tremendous team basketball from players like Michael Cemezar (2021, PG, Goodrich). There were fast rising stars like
Jesse LawsonJesseLawson6'4" | CGWalled Lake Northern | 2021StateMI Jr. (2021, CG, Walled Lake Northern). Lawson had been playing lights out basketball in grassroots events and that continued at the showcase.
The class of 2023.
I get it, opinions will line up in all directions as to the talent that this class holds. I for one, am very high on this group of young men. Stars like Olafioye,
Sonny WilsonSonnyWilson6'0" | PGUD Jesuit | 2023State#44NationMI, and
Curtis WilliamsCurtisWilliams6'5" | SFBrother Rice | 2023StateMI are the headliners but the class offers a lot more in addition.
RJ TaylorRJTaylor5'11" | PGGrand Blanc | 2023State#114NationMI is a tremendous talent and a great story. Players like
Chuck Bailey IIIChuckBailey III6'0" | PGBirmingham Groves | 2023StateMI,
John BlackwellJohnBlackwell6'3" | SGNovi Christian Academy | 2023StateMI, and
Tyler JamisonTylerJamison6'4" | SFPort Huron Northern | 2023StateMI have huge upsides. There are unique prospects like the versatile
Luke HazeltonLukeHazelton6'7" | PFGlen Lake | 2023StateMI a shifty
Kaden BrownKadenBrown5'10" | PGGrand Rapids Catholic Central | 2023StateMI.
