Continue ReadingThe road to the State Tournament in Region 7 will have to go through Dickinson Trinity and Beulah. These two squads bring back experienced players and have a ton of talent. They certainly will be challenged by other quality teams in the Region and anything can happen come tournament time. Make sure you pay attention to Region 7 hoops this year. There are many skilled players this year that have been earning college interest. Keep an eye on Region 7 this season, the next Class B State Champ could come out of here!
Alphabetically, here are our players to watch in Region 7:
Aiden Rebel Aiden Rebel 6'4" | SG New England | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-5 G| New England – A big guard who can hit from long range. He might have the best mid-range game and pull-up game in the State. Aiden is a match-up nightmare with his skill set and length. He is a nice athlete that can go up and rock the rim. Expect the Tigers to be a team nobody wants to play in the tournament because of Aiden. Look for Rebel to be an All-State player.
Austin Richter (2021) |6-6 F| Hazen – A large, rugged basketball player. He is a good athlete that moves well for his size. Austin should dominate on the glass this season. He is a force down low on defense. Expect a double-double most nights when you look at his stat line. Look for him to be the toughest low post player in Region 7.
Caleb Duffield Caleb Duffield 5'10" | PG Bowman County | 2021 State ND (2021) |5-10 G| Bowman County – Special shooter who only needs an inch to get his picture-perfect jumper off. He plays fast and has a great work ethic. Caleb has a great understanding of the game. He can create his own shot with his skill and athleticism. His best quality is that he makes others around him better. Look for Caleb to have the Bulldogs’ hot come playoff time and make something happen in the Regional tournament.
Cole Fitterer (2021) |6-0 G| Dickinson Trinity – Athletic guard who excels in the open court. He is a fast player who gets easy baskets in transition. Cole can hit the 3-ball with consistency. He has good balance with sound shooting form. Expect him to be the leading scorer for the Titans. Look for Cole to be an All-Region 7 player.
Grant Gerving (2021) |5-10 G| Glen Ullin/Hebron – A selfless player that cares about making his teammates better. He is an intelligent basketball player. Grant is a quick ball handler that keeps the D off balance. He has an ultra-soft jump shot that consistently goes home. Expect him to be one of the leaders in 3-pointers made this season. He is a gifted passer as well. Look for Grant to be one of the best point guards in the entire state of North Dakota.
Jake Daniel (2021) |6-0 G| Dickinson Trinity – A pesky smart defender who forces turnovers all over the court. He has quick hands that allow him to pick-pockets. Jake is the floor general for the Titans. He distributes the ball and is an opportunistic scorer. Expect made 3’s if you leave him open around the arc. Look for him to be a top-end point guard and one of the best on-ball defenders in the area.
Jeran Anderson (2021) |6-1 G| Hettinger/Scranton – High-level 3-point shooter who can get it off in a hurry. He can be a zone-buster if you give him room to breathe. Jeran is a very good defender that can guard multiple positions. Anderson can shoot it, and he can also blow by defenders with the bounce. Expect his assist numbers to balloon up this year. Look for Jeran to be an All-Region guard this season in the very competitive Region 7.
Preston Walter (2021) |6-0 G| Heart River – A leader on and off the court. His presence on the court makes his teammates better. Preston is a smart player that knows the game of basketball. He is a solid all-around player. Expect him to be the primary ball-handler for his squad. The Cougars will go as far as he takes them this season. Look for Preston to have a breakout senior year.
Tanner Soehren (2021) |6-4 F| Dickinson Trinity – A flexible forward who can move all over the court. He can score on the block and off the bounce. He is an eraser in the lane on defense. He has a wingspan that aids in rebounding and deflections on defense. Look for him to be one of the best frontcourt players in the Region on a team that will rack up many wins.
Tevin Dietz (2022) |6-1 G| – Beach – A quick guard who looks to push the tempo. He is great in transition at drawing the defender and dropping dimes. Tevin can knock down the triple, but he is at his best when he is attacking the rim. Expect him to take a big step up this year on the defensive side. Look for Tevin to be one of the better up and coming underclassmen.
Trey Brandt Trey Brandt 6'1" | PG Beulah | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-0 G| Beulah – A true gym rat that loves the game. He works on his craft year-round and he has spent a lot of time in the weight room since last year. Trey is a cool customer who seems to always be in control of the tempo. He moves well without the ball and is a 3-point assassin with textbook form. Trey has a beautiful runner/floater that he gets off before he gets into traffic. He is an excellent ball-handler with a plethora of moves. His hesitation move keeps defenders off balance and his fake crossover leaves defenders in the dust. Look for him to be an All-State player.
