Continue ReadingNorth Dakota hoops started practices on Monday, November 30th. If things stay the same as they are today with COVID-19 restrictions games can kick off on December 14th. Region 3 has some stud players coming back and a few new kids on the block looking to make some noise. It looks like there will be multiple teams in contention for the Region Championship. Expect a great year of hoops in Region 3.
Alphabetically, here are our players to watch in Region 3:
Alex Huber Alex Huber 6'6" | SF Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-5 F| Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier – A true stretch-4 who can score down low and stretch the floor with the 3-ball. Alex has a nice pull-up game with a quick high release. He has artful footwork on the block and can finish on both sides of the rim. He has a nice quick first step. Look for him to be in the running for Region-3 Senior Athlete of the year.
Corban Potts (2022) |6-3 G| LaMoure/Litchville/Marion – A true floor-general who runs the show for the Loboes. He has a nice feel for the game. Corban has a quality jump shot that will result in many triples being cashed in this year. He has quick hands on D and can guard 1-4 when needed. Look for him to be one of the top underclassmen in Region 3.
Garret Meehl (2021) |6-1 G| Oakes – Superb athlete with a high basketball IQ. He has a nice soft floater that he uses in the paint. Garret has a quick smooth release on his jump-shot. He can fill it up from beyond the arc. Garret can wreak havoc on defense that results in easy points on the other end. Best of all he makes his teammates better players. Look for him to be one of the best guards in Region 3 this year.
Jake Wagner Jake Wagner 6'2" | SG Strasburg/Zeeland | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-3 G| Strasburg/Zeeland – A consistent all-around player that can score, defend, and rebound. He is one of the best scoring guards in Region 3. He is an athletic baller that has improved his game every year. Look for him to be an All-Region player this season.
Jayden Rath (2021) |5-10 G| Kidder County – He is a shooter that can score in a variety of ways. He is a quick guard that is a good on-ball defender. Jayden will have a big senior season and lead the way for the Wolves. Look for him to be a top guard in the Region.
Josh Moser Josh Moser 6'1" | SG Medina-Pingree-Buchanan | 2023 State ND (2023) |6-1 G| Medina/Pingree/Buchanan – Solid ball-handler that sets the tone for his squad. He is a stat-sheet-filler and could lead his team in most categories this season. He uses the pick and roll well. Josh makes plays in the open court and excels at going downhill to the hoop. He has extended his shooting range by adding strength. Look for him to be one of the top young guards in the Region.
Logan Topp (2022) |6-0 G| Griggs/Midkota – He is a quick-handed defender and aggressive on the ball. He is strong with the rock and always in attack-mode. He has a pure looking jumper and can pull up on a dime. Logan is quick in transition and unselfish with the ball. Look for him to have a breakout year in Region 3.
Lucas Schumacher Lucas Schumacher 6'2" | SG Linton | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-3 G| Linton/HMB – All-State caliber player. Lighting quick release who can hit J’s from 23 feet. Lucas has ball-on-a-string handles. He is a versatile guard that can score from all over. He can post up smaller guards on the block. His strength and quickness make him a tough defender. Look for him to be in the running for Mr. Basketball this season in North Dakota.
Scott Wagner Scott Wagner 6'8" | C Ellendale | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-7 F| Ellendale – He is a rebounding machine. Scott is a beast on the block and very physical. His height and long wingspan make him one of the best rim protectors in the State. He has a soft touch around the rim. Expect a double-double from him every night. Look for him to be one of the top post players in North Dakota this year regardless of class.
Steele Hansen Steele Hansen 5'10" | SF Oakes | 2021 State ND (2021) |5-11 G| Oakes – A Leader who is ultra-competitive that will do anything to win. He can see the floor well which makes others around him better. He is a quick fast player. For a guard, he is a great rebounder. Stelle is a serious 3-point threat that has range. Look for him to be one of the best defenders in the Region.
