- First things first, the new gym is RIDICULOUS. It has to be the nicest gym I’ve been in lately. The gym is nicer than most small college facilities. Between that and the football field across from the gym, Clark County is in the mix for nicest facilities in Kentucky.
- Junior Jerone Morton Jerone Morton 6'3" | SG George Rogers Clark | 2023 State KY is the real deal. The lefty guard was dominant in the scrimmage I watched. He was able to score the ball at all 3 levels and shook a defender out of his shoes on a nifty hesitation dribble. As the scrimmage went on, Jerone either got tired or bored and was less effective but looks the part of a mid major D1 or better guard right now.
- Fellow Junior Trent Edwards Trent Edwards 6'8" | PF George Rogers Clark | 2023 State KY is an intriguing prospect. Edwards is at least 6’6 and is very long. He’s not overwhelmingly athletic but he’s long enough that he finished several lobs above the rim. I’m interested to see Trent play with the ball in his hands a little more as he was mainly playing around the rim or shooting 3s off catch and shoot.
- Jared Wellman Jared Wellman 6'4" | SF George Rogers Clark | 2021 State KY shot the lights out for most of the day. The lanky Senior was pulling from 25 feet or further with no hesitation all day and probably shot 60% or better over the course of the scrimmage. A high academic prospect, Jared is a really good prospect for schools to track.
- Similarly, Senior Reed Johnson shot the ball well over the course of the day.
- Junior Aden Slone Aden Slone 5'9" | PG George Rogers Clark | 2022 State KY is still adjusting after a transfer from Danville but he eventually will allow Morton to play off the ball most of the time. Aden also hit shots during the scrimmage but his biggest asset is probably his passing skills.
- This team has a lot of depth. Sammy Hernandez, Stanley Smothers, Jeremiah Mundy-Lloyd, Chris Morton and Reshaun Hampton are all solid pieces who will contribute in some fashion this season.
- The Cardinals are the 10th region favorites for a reason and should be in the driver’s seat to return to Rupp this season. Looking ahead to next year, Coach Cook’s team could be on the short list for state title favorites next year.
