Preseason Co-Players of the Year:
Avery Gatzemeyer Avery Gatzemeyer 6'1" | PG Valley Falls | 2022 State KS , junior, Valley Falls:
The 6-foot-2 guard does it all for Valley Falls. He earned honorable mention 1A by averaging 14.6 points and 6.2 rebounds as a sophomore. He is athletic and plays with aggressiveness.
Nate Hawk Nate Hawk 6'6" | PF Valley Falls | 2021 State KS , senior, Valley Falls (pictured):
Teams for co-player of the year? Well they look to be the two best players in the league. Hawk honed his skills with some high-level summer competition. He’s now listed at 6-foot-7. He’s angular and long and can use his size at a lot of different spots on the floor. He’s not a stocky guy, but he battles in the lane. But he can also guard on the perimeter and move around the offensive end. He averaged 12 points and 7 rebounds as a junior.
Returning stars:
Ryan Feldkamp, junior, Jefferson North:
The 6-foot-4 Feldkamp is developing into one of the best big men in the league. He averaged 11 points and 9.5 boards as a sophomore.
Matt Kuglin, senior, McLouth:
McLouth loses a ton, so Kuglin will be looked to as the senior leader of the Bulldogs.
Connor Gibson, senior, Pleasant Ridge:
Gibson is a good-sized guard who can score. He averaged 12 points a game. Pleasant Ridge returns a lot of talent and looks to take another step.
Players to watch:
Trey Lockwood, senior, Horton:
Lockwood is a 6-foot-2 athlete who will try to help lead Horton to respectability.
Justin Johnston, junior, Pleasant Ridge:
The 6-foot-2 junior got enough exposure to receive honorable mention all league last season.
Brayden Hast, junior, Oskaloosa:
Hast stands 6-foot-5 and got good experience last season. He averaged 6.7 points and 3.8 blocks per game, and will be key to help Oskaloosa make improvement this year.
