Teams who are able to get good production out of there point guards usually have strong seasons. The NJIC is filled with good lead guards who are capable of making an impact at the next level. Here are the top point guards to watch in the NJIC this season.
Jayden Lemond Jayden Lemond 6'3" | PG Blair Academy | 2023 State #183 Nation NJ , 6’3 Dwight-Englewood 2022
The Bulldogs won 19 games last season and they have an opportunity for another strong season with Lemond returning in the backcourt. The 6’3 guard has a good handle and knows how to get to the basket. Lemond is a nice finisher around the rim and is also capable of knocking down perimeter jumpers. He is a good passer and uses his athleticism to make plays on the defensive end. Lemond is a talented point guard who is ready for another strong season for Dwight-Englewood.
Jamling Lama Jamling Lama 6'0" | PG Secaucus | 2021 State NJ , 6’0 Secaucus 2021
Secaucus made it to the sectional semifinals last year and have the potential for another strong season with Lama back in the fold. The lefty lead guard has a nice release on his jumper and shoots the ball with confidence. Lama can shoot the ball off the bounce and knows how to move off the ball. He fights for rebounds on the defensive end and is an underrated passer. Lama is a tough lead guard who should have a good final season for Secaucus.
Richard Machado Richard Machado 6'1" | CG Saddle River Day | 2023 State NJ , 5’10 Saddle River Day 2023
The Rebels are fresh off a 22-win season and they should have another good year with Machado back. The 5’10 guard is one of the top shooters in the 2023 class and shoots the ball with confidence. Machado can bury triples in bunches, but is also capable of taking the ball to the basket. He moves his feet well on the defensive end and makes good decisions with the ball in his hands. Saddle River Day’s offense is in good hands with Machado running the offense for the next couple of seasons.
Asim Jones Asim Jones 6'3" | SG Paterson Charter | 2022 State NJ , 5’10 Manchester Regional 2022
Jones has been a key part of the Falcons’ attack over the past two seasons and that should not change this year. The 5’10 guard is lightning quick with the ball in his hands and is tough to keep out of the lane. Jones is more than just a driver as he has a good release on his jumper and can bury shots from behind the arc. He plays with active hands on the defensive end and is a solid passer. Jones will be the focal point of Manchester Regional’s offense again as the Falcons look to build off their success from last year.
Jeremiah Martin Jeremiah Martin 6'0" | SG Leonia | 2021 State NJ , 6’0 Leonia 2021
Martin played off the ball during the summer, but he should be more on the ball this season for Leonia. The 6’0 guard attacks the basket hard and does not mind drawing contact. Martin has a good handle as he is able to break his defender down off the bounce. He is a tough on-ball defender and fights for rebounds on both ends of the floor. Martin is a tough lead guard who should have a strong final season for Leonia.
