Haden Barnes 6’3″ Van Buren: A strong 2021 forward who led the Bulldogs to a pair of victories at the Current River Classic in Van Buren last weekend. This young man can really score and he does it in a variety of ways. He uses his strength to power his way to the basket by the drive or in the low post, plus he is a relentless offensive rebounder who gives second and third effort. He is a solid shooter from the perimeter who also moves well without the ball and cuts hard with conviction. He averaged nearly 20 points a game as a junior.
Drew Irby 5’10” Portageville: A talented 2021 guard who was an All-Bootheel Conference performer last season after leading his team to a district championship game berth. He was really impressive in his team’s season opener against Charleston where he spearheaded a near victory after trailing by 22 points. He has very confident handles and he can create his own shot off the dribble and get buckets off of his dribble penetration. He can play with the ball or off the ball with equal effectiveness.
Luke Jordan 6’2″ Lee’s Summit West: With four starters missing in the Titans’ opener, the 2021 point guard stepped up with a big performance in an overtime loss to a talented Truman team. He scored 19 points, along with five rebounds and six assists. He was cash money from long distance with five 3-pointers. He also did a nice job of handling the ball and making good decisions and keeping his young group organized.
Jaiden Carrasquillo 6’0″ Verona: A smooth 2022 guard who returns after averaging 21 points a game as a sophomore. He scored 30 points in his season opener against Everton and looked effortless doing it. He can create his own offense off the dribble, which includes a very effective spin move in the lane. He scored on tough takes to the basket and knocked down open 3-pointers.
Devontae Minor 5’7″ St. Paul Lutheran: A jet quick 2023 guard who played with a lot of pace, but under control which isn’t always easy for fast little guards. He was impressive in Lutheran’s victory over Bourbon in the first round of the Valley of Caledonia Tournament. He did an excellent job distributing the basket, plus he can get his own bucket when needed with floaters in the lane, layups and short jumpers. I really like his poise and decision making for a young player.
