Carter Capstran Carter Capstran 6'6" | PF Franklin | 2021 State WI – 2021 – PF – Franklin
If Capstran had prototypical positional size, he’d be a priority Division 2 recruit. The 6-foot-5 senior can absolutely dominate 1-on-1 on the block. He’s a little reminiscent of former Brookfield East star Riley LeTourneau — just give him on the ball in the post and he’ll create a high quality shot. Capstran had a big second half to help Franklin get a nice road win over Catholic Memorial. The Crusaders zoned Capstran much of the game to try and take away the size advantage. Capstran looked really good in the high post, catching in traffic and firing passes to the wing for open 3’s. He made the most of limited touches down low, taking over the game late in the second half and powering through for some tough finishes en route to a game-high 19 points.
Will Gardner – 2023 – G – Franklin
Gardner got hot in the first half, scoring all 11 of his points to help Franklin gain some separation on Catholic Memorial in Monday’s win. The sophomore guard shot the ball well in the corners. Liked that he had some opportunities for ‘heat checks’ but wisely passed on poor shots. Gardner provides a nice calming presence on the floor. He was sharp against the zone, getting the ball moving side-top-side and not letting the defense rest. A lot of hockey assists were made on Gardner’s behalf during Monday’s win.
A.J. Hintz – 2021 – PG – Pewaukee
A kid that’s growing on me this season, Hintz has made a number of eye-opening plays for Pewaukee. He hit a late 3-pointer that gave the Pirates the lead for good in Monday’s road win at Arrowhead. He’s the type of player you don’t necessarily run anything for, but you definitely don’t mind if the ball ends up in his hands. Hintz is a speedy, playmaking guard who can handle in traffic and make plays for others. He’s got some surprising athletic ability and will take the ball to the rim and score if the defense sleeps on him. If Pewaukee plays deep into March, I’m betting that Hintz will be an x-factor for that run.
Sam Hytinen Sam Hytinen 6'3" | SF Arrowhead | 2021 State WI – 2021 – SF – Arrowhead
Still on the board, Hytinen is an excellent late pickup for a Division 3 program. A 3-and-D wing, Hytinen had 20 points in a loss to Pewaukee. The senior really asserted himself in the second half and showed a better skillset since last season. Known more for his catch-and-shoot ability, Hytinen looked really good attacking from the top of the key and either getting to the cup with either hand or stopping on a dime and shooting from 12-14 feet. The lefty has the potential to be an instant offense type player at the next level. He’s also more athletic than he gets credit for and always engaged defensively, giving him plenty of value as a prospect.
Ashton Janowski Ashton Janowski 6'1" | CG Pewaukee | 2022 State WI – 2022 – PG – Pewaukee
Janowski hit a couple of key buckets late that helped Pewaukee rally and defeat Arrowhead. The best part of his night was shaking off a couple misses at the rim. It looked like Arrowhead was going to take the victory after Janowski missed a couple of bunnies. However, Janowski never put his head down and instead delivered in crunch time. A steady, high-IQ floor general, Janowski understands the point guard position better than most. He’s pass-first, but can take over a game scoring and is the best mid-range shooter in Wisconsin’s 2022 class. May not have idea size/athleticism for Division 1, but I think his game really translates to that level and mid-major coaches need to take a hard look this spring/summer.
Bennett McCormick – 2023 – SF – Catholic Memorial
If McCormick can gain confidence in his outside shot, he’s going to be really tough to stop. The sophomore wing had 12 points in a loss against Franklin. An athletic slasher, McCormick hits gaps and has some surprising scoring ability with tough angles or when he’s pushed away from the rim. McCormick is also exceptional in transition. He’ll grab and rebound and get coast-to-coast with ease. Loved the way he attacked the glass defensively, pulling down nine boards in Monday’s loss.
Braden Mcglothlin Braden Mcglothlin 6'0" | PG Catholic Memorial | 2023 State WI – 2023 – G – Catholic Memorial
There’s just a certain confidence/swagger about McGlothlin when he plays the game. Facing a ranked Franklin squad, the sophomore guard had 17 points and a handful of assists. There’s a little bit of Jackson Paveletzke Jackson Paveletzke 6'1" | CG Kimberly | 2022 State WI in McGlothlin, who’s able to take over the game as a scorer or facilitator. Like Paveletzke, McGlothlin is a bit of a tweener at the guard spot, but is very skilled and has a ton of tools on the ball. He’s a dangerous shooter from both 3-point and mid-range, especially off the bounce. The 6-foot guard has a quick trigger and extended range beyond the 3-point arc. Really like him as a passer too. McGlothlin sees the floor about as well as any prospect in Wisconsin’s 2023 class. He’s unique with his ability to whip passes cross-court with either hand and hit shooters right in the pocket.
Vinko Polovic Vinko Polovic 6'7" | PF Franklin | 2021 State WI – 2021 – F – Franklin
Whoever lands Polovic is looking at a project. He’s a kid that could really benefit from a prep/JUCO stint as the 6-foot-7 forward is still scratching the surface. Polovic came out and hit three early 3-pointers against Catholic Memorial and finished with 11 points. With the way he handles the ball and shoots it from the outside, Polovic could develop into more of a wing rather than a stretch forward. A late bloomer, Polovic is a long, athletic prospect with a lot of things you can’t teach. Some basketball IQ things need to be cleaned up and he’ll still need plenty of skill work for the next level, but Polovic continues to be on the right track since the summer.
Josh Terrian Josh Terrian 6'4" | SF Pewaukee | 2022 State WI – 2022 – SF – Pewaukee
Just another day at the office for Terrian in Monday’s win at Arrowhead. The kid just doesn’t have off games and put together another big effort in a high-level contest. Terrian got loose late to help the Pirates rally from an eight-point deficit, but just makes so many different types of plays. For most of the game, Terrian was a go-to option down on the block. The 6-foot-3 junior has an advanced post game and can score 1-on-1 or pass out of double teams effectively. Terrian is also a sniper from downtown and will even set screens to generate pick n’ pop opportunities. A prospect that does a little bit of everything and generally plays mistake-free basketball, Terrian is a coaches dream. You don’t have to yell at him to play hard or do the little things — Terrian will bring it every single day.
Mac Wrecke Mac Wrecke 6'5" | SG Arrowhead | 2023 State #272 Nation WI – 2023 – SF – Arrowhead
Wrecke might be in that No. 2 spot in Wisconsin’s 2023 class come the end of the season. A physical slasher who can also shoot the ball, Wrecke had 21 points in a tough loss to Pewaukee. Wrecke is relentless when attacking the hole and can score through contact very well for his age. When he mixes in the outside shot, Wrecke is a very difficult matchup. The 6-foot-3 sophomore got hot to start the second half, igniting a nice rally for Arrowhead, who led by as many as eight. A terrific athlete who can play above the rim and shines in football as well, Wrecke brings a lot to the table aside from just scoring the basketball.
