The event also had former NBA players Tracy McGrady, Stephen Jackson and current Houston High boys’ basketball coach Mike Miller on hand to watch the top talent on the floor.
I was on hand for the first night of the event and came away with the six best performers on the floor.
Here are the top performers from Thursday night.
Jalen Brown, Tennessee Prep: The Memphis, Tennessee native led his team with 24 points in its 84-72 loss to the ISchool of Lewisville. The 6-foot-4 senior guard spent time on the floor playing point guard and shooting guard. He was effective playing both positions. He avoided traps when he was the floor general. Brown pushed the ball up the floor. On the wing, he found his sweet spots inside the 3-point line. After the game, head coach Harold Rayford mentioned to me that he’s going to push forward with Brown as the team’s point guard. That’s not a bad idea.
Keyonte George, ISchool of Lewisville: George led his team with 29 points. He had a lot of open looks from 3 and made Tennessee Prep pay each time he was left alone behind the 3-point line. George, a 6-4 junior shooting guard, shoots the ball very well from deep. He made six 3s in the win. George is very athletic with bounce and has upper body strength. He’s very vocal on the court and moves well without the basketball.
JD Davison, Calhoun School: The 2021 Alabama commit led the Tigers with 25 points in their 85-66 loss to Bartlett. Davison scored 21 of his 25 points in the first half. He was able to score with ease when he was able to get downhill. Davison has a nice touch at the rim. He knows how to finish.
Joshua Curtis, Calhoun School: Curtis was all over the glass Thursday night and was able to get a lot of putbacks. The senior wing finished with 17 points. Curtis helped Davison on the offensive end when he was seeing double teams.
Tadarius Jacobs, Bartlett: Jacobs had a solid performance for the Panthers. He finished with 20 points in their win. Jacobs took more great shots than bad ones. He made timely baskets from the perimeter when Bartlett needed them. The senior guard also played solid defense, ripping Davison at the top of the key. Jacobs was the best two-way player for the Panthers Thursday night.
Amarr Knox, Bartlett: Thursday night was probably Knox’s best performance of the 2020 season so far. He had 37 points against Calhoun School. He was feeling it in the third quarter, knocking down four 3s. Knox, a junior, was active on the defensive end and went 3 for 3 from the free throw line. It’s obvious that he and Jacobs will work well together.
