The Panthers seemed to have their way in the first quarter and ended it with a 19-10 lead. Beulah would make a bit of a run in the second quarter mainly led by Trey Brandt Trey Brandt 6'1" | PG Beulah | 2022 State ND . He went into halftime leading all scorers with 12 points. Rugby played all half-court man in the first half and Beulah played half-court man mainly but would pick up after makes with token pressure. The tempo of the first half was relatively slow and resulted in only a couple of fast-break points. The Panthers went into halftime with a six-point lead.
Beulah could not do much inside against Rugby’s size and athleticism. The Panthers did not pressure the ball but always seemed to be taking away driving lanes. The Miner’s had to rely on a drive and kick offense. When the outside shots did not fall, they were left without many opportunities. Neither team applied much pressure in the second half. The Panthers did a nice job of keeping the Miners in front of them in the third quarter and went into the fourth quarter with a 10-point lead. The one player that did have success against the Rugby D was Trey Brandt Trey Brandt 6'1" | PG Beulah | 2022 State ND who had 19 points going into the last quarter of the game. Beulah started picking up with full-court pressure and they started to speed the game up that resulted in a few Rugby turnovers. Brandt started the fourth by knocking down 3-pointers and cut the Rugby lead down to 1 point. The Panthers would answer with a few baskets of their own to get the lead back to 6. The Miners battled back with a big triple by Nathan Battest and the lead was back down to 3 with 1:13 left in the game. Cole Slaubaugh from Rugby answered with his own triple and shut the door on the Beulah comeback. Trey Welstad put the game on ice down the stretch from the free-throw line and helped seal the win for Rugby
Game Takeaways – Rugby has 4 very talented players. Welstad, Walker, Bundy-Smith, and Slaubaugh appear to have All-Region talent. Bundy-Smith and Slaubaugh clean up the glass and do a nice job protecting the rim. Rugby does not apply pressure on defense, but they do a nice job of keeping the opposing team out of the paint. Warren Walker is very athletic and skilled, I was unaware of how great of a player he is. Trey Brandt Trey Brandt 6'1" | PG Beulah | 2022 State ND is still a stud, he scored over half of his team’s points in this game.

Rugby
Cole Slaubaugh (2021) |6-4 F| Rugby – The big athletic lefty had 15 points in the game. He had a dagger of a 3, late in the game. Cole has nice moves in and around the paint with a nice fade-away jumper. He is a rim protector and rejected a big shot in the fourth quarter. Cole is a quality rebounder, he crashes the O-glass intensely. He is an All-Region type player.
Isaiah Bundy-Smith Isaiah Bundy-Smith 6'4" | PF Rugby | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-6 F| Rugby – He had a bit of a quiet night offensively. His presence was still felt in rebounding and on the defensive end. When he did attack, he has nice footwork and a quality looking shot.
Trey Welstad (2021) |6-1 G| Rugby – He had a great start to the game scoring the first 8 points. Trey hit a great step-back 3 early in the game that looked like a college player doing it. He has great handles and is a nice facilitator. As the season goes on and he becomes more comfortable with his new team he will be an elite guard.
Warren Walker (2021) |6-2 G| Rugby – He was the best player on the court in the game for the Panthers. Warren can do it all on the offensive end. He was very impressive. Warren is athletic and can finish with both hands. He covers a lot of ground when attacking the hoop. He cashed in some triples throughout the game and had a monster pull-up jumper as the buzzer sounded to tend the third quarter. Warren ended with 25 points in the game. He absolutely looked like an All-Region player in this game.
Beulah
Elijah Barbot (2021) |5-7 G| Beulah – A quick guard who hustles all over the floor.
Dawson Zuroff (2021) |6-2 G| Beulah – Nice looking jumper from outside. Dawson is a skilled athlete.
Nathan Battest (2021) |5-10 G| Beulah – He is an explosive athlete that has great bounce. Nathan has a good-looking shot from 3-point land.
Trapper Skalsky (2022) |6-0 G| Beulah – He has a quick trigger from beyond the arc. Trapper is another nice athlete for Beulah.
Trey Brandt Trey Brandt 6'1" | PG Beulah | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-0 G| Beulah – Another big night for Trey who had 31 points. He knocked down a couple NBA range 3’s. He attacked the basket with confidence and finished through contact. He anticipates well on defense that leads to steals. I really like his left-handed fake crossover. He is an All-State caliber player.
