With the high school basketball regular season temporarily on hold, various grassroots events have stepped in to take its place, and here’s a quick look at a few players who have used that time to improve and showcase their game.
1. Trevor Williams – Serra(Gardena) 2021
Williams is a very good long range shooter. He has unlimited range and a quick release. He moves well without the ball to get himself open from three. Loves to shoot the corner three ball. He’s comfortable shooting when he’s open or with a defender rushing at him. He can pull-up for three in transition too. He doesn’t always need a pass to get off a good look, he’s comfortable creating for himself.
2. Elali McNair – St. John Bosco 2021
McNair is a very good hustle player who plays with a ton of energy. He’s very scrappy and tough defensively. He moves his feet well and applies strong pressure to the ball-handler. He also picks up defensively in the backcourt. He’s not particularly tall, but he can crash the boards and snake in for rebounds. He’s strong around the rim and he can draw contact.
3. C.J. Hardy – El Segundo 2021
Hardy is a natural scoring wing. He’s slight, but strong and crafty and can get to his spots on the court to put himself in position to get buckets. He’s quick in transition and he can get all the way to the rim and get himself to the free-throw line. Great ISO player who can break down the defense and attack off the dribble. He also uses screens effectively to get a switch/better matchup for him. Should have a big senior year.
4. Lennox Jeffries – Redondo Union 2022
Jeffries stood out due to his play around the rim. He has good size up front and is a strong rebounder. He crashes the offensive glass in particular and he gets easy put-back opportunities for himself. When securing a rebound, he doesn’t bring the ball down, he keeps it high and goes up strong. He’s also a very active defender on-ball, plays with a lot of energy on the defensive end.
