Although the pre-holiday break week was just two days long, there were some results that resulted in a shakeup in the rankings across all four classes. We detail the changes below.
North Linn (8-0) received their first challenge of the year, escaping with a 66-63 win against Edgewood-Colesburg, and the Lynx remain #1 in Class 1A. The top five remain the same in the class, while Lake Mills (8-0), Easton Valley (8-0), North Mahaska (6-1) and Gehlen Catholic (8-1) each moved up a spot this week. Grand View Christian (5-1) enters at #10, while New London drops out of the rankings this week following their loss to Central Lee.
In Class 2A, defending champion Boyden-Hull (7-0) remains a strong #1. Western Christian (5-2) drops from #2 to #4 following a loss to 3A Sergeant Bluff-Luton, while Denver (7-0) and Dike-New Hartford (5-1) round out the top three. Des Moines Christian (7-1) enters the rankings at #8 following their win over then-#4 Van Meter.
Not much changes in Class 3A, as the top eight teams remain in the same spots as last week, led by #1 Dallas Center-Grimes (6-0). The only change in the class comes at #9 and #10, where Solon (6-1) and Western Dubuque (5-1) flip-flop following the Bobcats’ narrow loss to Waterloo West.
Waukee (1-0) finally opened their season, posting a dominant 65-28 win over Ankeny, and they remain #1 in Class 4A. With some teams just starting their seasons, and other schools still not started, 4A has been difficult to rank so far this season. We have dropped the preseason ranked teams that haven’t played a game yet to the bottom of the rankings for the team being, and will continue to adjust as more of them begin play.
