High School Preview: 2021 All-State Rim Protectors
Now let’s look at the junior class and their preseason All-State Rim Protectors.
Ethan Dunn Ethan Dunn 6'10" | C Elevation Prep | 2022 IN (C, East Lansing)
Dunn is a good old fashioned big, mixed with skill and footwork. He has nice post footwork defensively and seems to make himself a factor when the ball enters the lane. I’ve raved about his offense in the past, but it’s time he gets that same love on the defensive end.
Owen Hardy Owen Hardy 6'9" | PF Forest Hills Eastern | 2022 State MI (PF, Forest Hills Eastern)
Hardy could be a true weapon on the defensive end for Forest Hills Eastern. He seems to know where the ball is, or is going, and stays on the move to keep it away from the rim. Hardy is strong enough to bang with the biggest post players in the state.
Sam Leppien Sam Leppien 6'10" | C Alma | 2022 State MI (C, Alma)
Leppien, in my opinion, is going to make a lot of noise on the defensive end this coming season. He’s underrated as an athlete, and that sneaky athleticism will bode well for him. Leppien is tall and long, and can cover a lot of space in the lane. Offenses will really have to be aware of his prescience at all times.
Shawn Phillips (C, Ypsi Prep)
I know he suits up for a prep school in Ypsi Prep, but I had to include him. He’s the most athletic big in the class and can play above the rim on both ends. No shot is safe with Phillips patrolling the paint. He’s an exciting playmaker on D.
Kareem Aburashed Kareem Aburashed 6'9" | PF Detroit Country Day | 2022 State MI (PF, Detroit Country Day)
Rashed is improving quickly, but his defense has always been the name to his game. He can play a physical brand of basketball, but can also finesse smaller and more athletic 4’s. Rashed likes to challenge shooters, closing out with his hands high.
Alden Ritt Alden Ritt 6'7" | PF Lake Orion | 2022 State MI (PF, Lake Orion)
I went back and forth with putting Ritt in this list because I see him more as a combo forward. But let’s face the facts, he’s a really strong and tough kid that can push around most post players. In fact, he excels with contact and is athletic enough to rise up and alter shots.
